Abstract: Apparatuses are described to accurately determine a gas concentration of a sample of a patient's breath. The apparatuses may include a sample compartment, a breath speed analyzer, a gas analyzer, and a processor. The sample compartment includes an inlet that receives the breath. The breath speed analyzer determines the speed of a portion of the breath. The gas analyzer determines a gas concentration. The processor includes an algorithm that determines a degree of non-homogeneity of the sample based on the speed, and a corrected gas concentration based on the degree of non-homogeneity. In some variations, the gas correction is determined independently of patient cooperation. Apparatuses may be tuned based on the intended population's expected breathing pattern ranges such that the sample compartment is filled with a homogenous end-tidal gas sample regardless of an individual's breathing pattern. These apparatuses are useful, for example, for end-tidal CO analysis. Methods are also described.

  • Patent number: 10034638
Abstract: Techniques for motion artifact (MA) reduction in impedance plethysmography (IP) and other physiological signals are provided. The techniques limit the amplitude of MA filtered signals by imposing an “?-tube.” The techniques may include the introduction of a regularization term to ensure that the pattern of a filtered signal is similar to the pattern of the primary component of the original, unfiltered signal by maximizing the regularity of the filtered signal. The techniques may be integrated into a portable monitoring device, such as an armband, to remove MA from various diagnostic signals and to extract primary signal components for producing enhanced device performance.

  • Patent number: 10034640
Abstract: A method and apparatus for improvement of spatial resolution in molecular and radiological imaging is presented. System equipment includes bed with either flat or cylindrical detectors large detector arrays with collimator(s), lens(s), mirror(s) and/or shutter(s). This system utilizes magnification principles with large detector arrays. There is error reduction by reduction of non-collinearity error as seen in current PET scans by determination of the trajectory of the photons and accurate localization of the annihilation event of a positron. Additional error reduction of random coincidence and scatter coincidence is seen. Overall, this method and apparatus affords improved spatial resolution and higher efficiencies, which would allow for lower cost and dose reduction to the patient.

  • Patent number: 10034642
Abstract: A wheel alignment guide that provides a visual indication of the desired placement of an apparatus. The wheel alignment guide includes a body having an opening disposed therein. The wheel alignment guide is configured to surround a portion of the apparatus, such as a wheel, via the opening. In addition, the wheel alignment guide is adapted to rest on a ground surface, being held in place via a charge, such as an electrostatic charge created by static cling vinyl. A wheel of a medical device is disposed within the opening of the wheel alignment guide after a desired position of the medical device is selected. If the medical device is moved during a medical procedure, the medical device may be repositioned due to the placement of the wheel alignment guide. Accordingly, the wheel alignment guide eliminates the need for inefficient markers and potentially-dangerous adhesives, particularly in an operating room.

  • Patent number: 10034644
Abstract: In a tomographic image display device, an MIP-axis setting unit sets a predetermined axis of a subject as an MIP-axis. A position information calculation unit sets each position of three-dimensional volume data obtained for different regions of interest at three-dimensional positions corresponding to positional relationships between the MIP-axis and the region of interest. A three-dimensional data integration unit integrates each of the three-dimensional volume data in which three-dimensional positions are set into single three-dimensional data, and an MIP image generation unit projects an MIP image onto the integrated three-dimensional data in one or more projection directions orthogonal to the MIP-axis. In the MIP image, projection images of each of three-dimensional volume data are projected at positions corresponding to a positional relationship between the MIP-axis and the regions of interest.
