Abstract: A femtosecond laser system for ophthalmic applications, which employs a number of chirped mirrors in the laser beam delivery system between the laser head and the objective lens. The chirped mirrors perform the dual function of both turning the laser beam in desired directions and compensating for beam broadening due to group delay dispersion (GDD) of the optical elements of the system. Each chirped mirror reflects the laser beam only once. Four chirped mirrors are used, each providing up to ?5000 fs2 of negative GDD per bounce, to provide a total of ?18,000 fs2 negative GDD to compensate for the positive GDD of +18,000 fs2 introduced by other optical elements in the laser beam delivery system. This eliminates the need for a pulse compressor that would employ a grating pair, prism pair or grism pair, and therefore significantly reduces the size of the system and the alignment requirements.

Abstract: Disclosed are compositions that comprise an organic electrochemical mediator and a gasotransmitter salt which converts into a gasotransmitter via electron transfer. Also disclosed are bandages and wound dressings comprising the subject gasotransmitters, and methods of making a gasotransmitters, comprising exposing the compositions to a voltage sufficient to reduce the water soluble organic mediator. Further disclosed are methods of treating a variety of trauma and disease states by applying a therapeutically effective amount of at least one gasotransmitter thereto, and methods of generating an effective dose of the gasotransmitter generated from electrolytic reaction involving the gasotransmitter-generating compositions.

Abstract: A system that may be adapted to distribute reduced pressure to a tissue site may include a dressing and a sealing member. The dressing may include a manifold layer, a storage layer, and a plurality of retainers. The manifold layer may be adapted to be positioned proximate the tissue site, and the storage layer may be positioned proximate the manifold layer. The plurality of retainers may be disposed in the storage layer. Each of the retainers may define a fluid communication channel through the storage layer. The retainers may be adapted to substantially preclude deformation of the storage layer into the fluid communication channels. The sealing member may be adapted to cover the dressing and to provide a fluid seal between the sealing member and the tissue site.

Abstract: A system for treating a tissue site includes a pressure source to apply reduced pressure, and a manifold in fluid communication with the pressure source to provide reduced pressure to the tissue site. The system includes a drape for adhering to the tissue site to cover the tissue site and the manifold. The drape has a film layer having a thickness less than about 15 microns, and an adhesive coupled to the film layer. The adhesive seals the film layer to the tissue site to create a sealed space having the manifold therein. The adhesive is sufficiently thick to limit leaks between the film layer and the tissue site.

Abstract: Compression device (1) for application circumferentially around a patient's limb (10), comprising a) a first band portion (20a) and a second band portion (20b), both band portions (20) being arrangeable along at least a part of the circumference of the limb for creating radial pressure on the limb, b) a spine element (30), extending in axial direction (100) when the compression device is applied around the limb, and comprising a first and a second guide opening (40a, 40b) for guiding the first and the second band portions, respectively. The guide openings (40a, 40b) are arranged offset in axial direction with respect to each other such that, when the first band portion is arranged along at least a part of the circumference of the limb and guided through the first guide opening, and the second band portion is arranged along at least a part of the circumference of the limb, parallel to the first band portion, and guided through the second guide opening, the band portions overlap in an axial direction.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods and apparatuses for mechanically bonding substrates together. The apparatuses may include a pattern roll including a pattern element protruding radially outward. The pattern element includes a pattern surface and includes one or more channels adjacent the pattern surface. The pattern roll may be positioned adjacent an anvil roll to define a nip between the pattern surface and the anvil roll, wherein the pattern roll is biased toward the anvil roll to define a nip pressure between pattern surface and the anvil roll. As substrates advance between the pattern roll and anvil roll, the substrates are compressed between the anvil roll and the pattern surface to form a discrete bond region between the first and second substrates. As such, during the bonding process, some yielded substrate material flows from under the pattern surface and into the channel to form a channel grommet region.
