Abstract: A device for controlled delivery of an injection material to tissue spaces of an eye that are not normally open, such as the subconjunctival space, the suprachoroidal space and the subretinal space. The device comprises an elongated body with a hollow cannula at the distal end, a slidable plunger at the proximal end, and a reservoir for the material to be injected residing between the cannula and the plunger. The plunger is mechanically coupled to a source of force such as a spring or pressurized gas reservoir such that an injection force is applied to the injection material within the device prior to delivery of the injection material into an eye. A valve that is normally closed to prevent flow of the injection material during application of the injection force is placed in the flow path between the cannula and reservoir. Due to the injection force placed on the injection material, actuation of the valve allows controlled flow from the reservoir through the cannula and into the tissue space.

Abstract: A method includes inserting a flexible cannula between a sclera and a choroid of an eye. The needle is advanced from a distal end of the flexible cannula, such that the needle pierces the choroid to access a subretinal space of the eye. The needle is used to aspirate fluid from the subretinal space. The fluid may be present from a retinal detachment, a macular hemorrhage, or other condition present before the procedure begins. The method may further include injecting the fluid in the subretinal space via the needle, in which case the fluid may be a balanced salt solution or other bleb fluid. The method may further include injecting a therapeutic agent into the subretinal space after aspirating the bleb fluid. The volume of injected bleb fluid may be greater than the volume of injected therapeutic agent.

  • Publication number: 20180256395
Abstract: A system that provides for multiple viscoelastic container support and adjustment of a less full container with a fuller container to facilitate, for example, a continuous supply of a protective viscoelastic fluid into the anterior chamber of the eye with minimal operator disruption. The system provides for delivering viscoelastic material to an eye though use of a controlled driver driving a transmission that is in driving communication with an actuator for forcing viscoelastic fluid material from one of a plurality of containers. A viscoelastic material support assembly, which includes a multiple viscoelastic material container retention supporting structure and an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the retention supporting structure relative to the actuator into an injection capable setting, operates to supply a desired amount of viscoelastic material to the eye chamber. The system includes inputs, automated corrections, and visual interaction. Also provided are methods for using the system.

Abstract: A method for providing a therapeutic benefit includes receiving sensor data from one or more physiological sensors and environmental sensors associated with a person and determining whether the sensor data exceeds a threshold. When the sensor data exceeds the threshold, a controller activates a first tactile stimulator to provide a first stimulation for a first time period when the sensor data exceeds the threshold and then activates a second tactile stimulator to apply a second stimulation for a second time period beginning at least commensurate with a cessation of (at the same time or overlapping) the first time period. The bi-lateral stimulation is repeated for a therapeutically effective number of repetitions such that the first and second stimulations are applied bi-laterally to the body of the person without the individual perceiving a pause in stimulation between the first stimulation and second stimulation to provide the therapeutic benefit to the person.
