Patent number: 10081996Abstract: In a plug an abandon environment with casing and a tubular string running through the casing a tool is placed at a desired location for a severing of the inner tubular. A first set of blades is extended from a housing to cut radially until the inner tubular is severed. A second set of blades are then extended for axial milling with a reach limit of the outside wall of the severed tubular at a location between upsets. As the axial milling reaches an upset, the second set of blades is allowed to retract and a third set with a longer reach is extended to axially mill the upset. Thereafter the third set of blades is allowed to retract and the second set is extended to continue axial milling. The second and third sets of blades can be reversed so that initial axial milling can be at the upset rather than between the upsets followed by milling between the upsets with the shorter reach blades.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2015Date of Patent: September 25, 2018Assignee: Baker Hughes, a GE company, LLCInventors: George N. Patent number: 10081997Abstract: A watermelon mill has a cutting structure mounted on a removable sleeve. The mandrel can be in two pieces threaded together to trap a ring or lug extending internally from the sleeve. Alternatively the sleeve can serve as a coupling holding together opposed threaded components that then make up the mandrel. The mandrel can have a radial external shoulder to act as a sleeve travel stop and another sleeve can be pushed into the first sleeve that has the cutting structure on it for proper axial fixation. The second sleeve that does not have cutting structure is pushed into position by making up an adjacent pin and box combination at a nearby connection to the cutting structure. What results is a flexible assembly that assembles without welding and retains greater flexibility in the larger sizes due to the assembly method. The sleeve can be tossed when the cutting structure is spent or redressed and remounted for another use.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2015Date of Patent: September 25, 2018Assignee: Baker Hughes, a GE company, LLCInventors: Gregory L. Patent number: 10082002Abstract: Fracking ports are initially obstructed with respective biased sleeves that have an associated release device responsive to a unique signal. The signal can be electronic or magnetic and delivered in a ball or dart that is dropped or pumped past a sensor associated with each release device. Each sensor is responsive to a unique signal. When the signal is received the release device allows the bias to shift the sleeve to open the fracture port and to let a flapper get biased onto an associated seat. The flapper and seat are preferably made from a material that eventually disappears leaving an unobstructed flow path in the passage. The method calls for repeating the process in an uphole direction until the entire zone is fractured. The flapper and seat can dissolve or otherwise disappear with well fluids, thermal effects, or added fluids to the well.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2016Date of Patent: September 25, 2018Assignee: Baker Hughes, a GE company, LLCInventors: Ewoud J. Patent number: 10082007Abstract: A treatment assembly treats zones of a horizontal borehole. For example, the assembly can gravel pack a zone by delivering slurry down a workstring. The slurry exits the workstring's outlet and pass to the borehole annulus of the zone through a flow port in the assembly. The gravel in the slurry can pack the borehole in an alpha-beta wave from toe to heel, and the fluid returns from the borehole flow through a screen back into the assembly. After gravel packing, operators remove excess slurry from the workstring by reverse circulating down the assembly to carry the excess slurry uphole through the workstring. Closures on the assembly prevent the reverse circulation from communicating through the screens to the borehole annulus. Additionally, flow valves can be used on the flow ports to selectively open and close them.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2014Date of Patent: September 25, 2018Assignee: Weatherford Technology Holdings, LLCInventors: John P. The device includes a central tubular section connecting the equipment to the production tubing string. The tubular section is surrounded by an annulus and a number of ports in the tubular section angled to allow fluid communication between the tubular section and the annulus during operation, but prevent particles from flowing from the annulus into the tubular section when not in use. A check valve between the tube and ESP assists in isolating the ESP from sand.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2017Date of Patent: September 25, 2018Assignee: FORUM US, INC.Inventors: Robert P. Patent number: 10082019Abstract: A method for signal communication between a well drilling instrument and the Earths surface includes generating an electromagnetic field in an instrument disposed in drill string used to drill a wellbore. The electromagnetic field includes encoded measurements from at least one sensor associated with the instrument. A signal corresponding to an amplitude and/or phase of the electromagnetic field is measured between the drill string and a surface electrode when the drill string is substantially electrically isolated from a well casing. A signal corresponding to the amplitude and/or phase is measured between the casing and a surface electrode when the casing and the drill string are in electrical contact with each other.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2015Date of Patent: September 25, 2018Inventors: Guozhong Gao, Luis Eduardo DePavia, Gaelle Jannin
