Abstract: Plastic parts are welded in a laser welding system. An infrared laser source in a laser chamber is controlled by a controller using closed-loop feedback control with a corrected feedback signal that is compensated for background infrared radiation in the laser chamber. Prior to the infrared laser source being turned on, the controller senses with the optical sensor an intensity of background infrared radiation in the laser chamber. Once the laser is on, the controller senses with the optical sensor an intensity of infrared laser radiation in the laser chamber. The controller calculates the corrected feedback signal by subtracting the intensity of the background infrared radiation sensed when the infrared laser source was off from the intensity of the infrared laser radiation sensed when the infrared laser source is on.

Abstract: A power tool is provided including a brushless DC (BLDC) motor, a rectifier that receives an alternative current from a power supply and outputs a rectified signal supplied to a DC power bus, and an inverter circuit having motor switches connected electrically between the DC power bus and the motor. A control module controls a switching operation of the power switches to regulate supply power from the power supply to the motor. The control module controls the switching operation so as to, within a half cycle of the AC power supply voltage waveform, increase current draw from the power supply from a first threshold at or after a first zero-crossing of the half cycle up to a second threshold, and reduce current draw from the power supply from the second threshold up to a third threshold at or prior to a second zero-crossing of the half cycle.

Abstract: Sockets, tools, and methods for decoupling threadably coupled components. The sockets have an open end sized to receive a distal portion of a first component having threads thereon, a closed end oppositely disposed from the open end, and an interior wall therebetween that defines a cavity. An interior surface of the interior wall has threads thereon configured to threadably couple with the threads of the first component. The tools include a handle configured for rotating the socket about its axis of rotation. The sockets and tools may be used by threadably coupling at least the distal portion of the first component into the opening of the open end of the socket, rotating the socket until the first component contacts a barrier at the closed end of the socket, and then simultaneously applying counter-rotational forces to the socket and a second component such that the first and second components threadably decouple.

Abstract: An electric hand held pulse tool for performing tightening operations where torque is delivered in pulses to tighten screw joints. The pulse tool includes a bidirectional electric motor, an output shaft, a sensor for monitoring a parameter reflecting a delivered torque pulse, and a control unit for controlling the electric motor. The sensor provides information regarding the monitored parameter to the control unit. The control unit, during a tightening operation performed by the pulse tool in a first direction, controls the motor to provide at least one torque pulse on the output shaft in a second direction that is opposite to the first direction. The sensor monitors a parameter reflecting a delivered torque pulse on the output shaft in the second direction. The control unit also determines information about the nature and state of a joint, due to the torque pulse on the output shaft in the second direction.
