Several BIMs showed an altered sedimentation phenotype as well as an increase cell chain length, reduced phage sensitivity, reduced phage adsorption and 100% identity in three CRISPR loci. The results show that the derived BIMs have become phage-resistant through a mechanism other than CRISPR.

Abstract: Systems and methods for manufacturing high-strength cladded components such as pressure containing components that may be used in, e.g., oilfield systems to carry corrosive fluids at high pressures. Embodiments of the invention include products and processes in which low carbon HSLA Steel that has a yield strength greater than 70,000 psi is used as a base material from which a component is formed. A corrosion resistant alloy is welded to selected surfaces of the base metal. Because the base material has a low carbon content, welding the corrosion resistant alloy onto the base material does not create significant stresses in the base material and consequently eliminates the need for PWHT to relieve such stresses and eliminates strength degradation that normally results from PWHT. Eliminating PWHT also allows the component to be refurbished and re-cladded multiple times without significantly degrading the yield strength of the component.

Abstract: A surface-treated steel material includes a coating film formed on a surface of a steel material through a plating layer. The plating layer is obtained by immersing the steel material in a galvalume bath containing Mg. In the surface-treated steel material, the coating film is formed using a coating composition containing a coating film-forming resin, a cross-linking agent, a predetermined vanadium compound, and trimagnesium phosphate. The vanadium compound is a compound satisfying a predetermined electrical conductivity. The content of the vanadium compound is limited to a specified amount with respect to 100 mass % of the total of the coating film-forming resin solids and the cross-linking agent solids. The vanadium compound has a specified pH, and the content of the trimagnesium phosphate is a specified amount with respect to 100 mass % of the total of the coating film-forming resin solids and the cross-linking agent solids.

Abstract: Endodontic instruments for use in performing root canal therapy on a tooth are disclosed. In one form, the instruments include an elongate shank having a cutting edge extending from a distal end of the shank along an axial length of the shank. The shank comprises a titanium alloy, and the shank is prepared by heat-treating the shank at a temperature above 25° C. in an atmosphere consisting essentially of a gas unreactive with the shank. In another form, the endodontic instruments have an elongate shank having a cutting edge extending from a distal end of the shank along an axial length of the shank. The shank consists essentially of a titanium alloy selected from alpha-titanium alloys, beta-titanium alloys, and alpha-beta-titanium alloys. The instruments solve the problems encountered when cleaning and enlarging a curved root canal.

Abstract: In a method of forming a carbon film of this invention, a target made of carbon is used, and in a state in which leakage magnetic field Mf is being functioned on a front surface side of the target, electric power is applied to the target to sputter, thereby forming a carbon film on a surface of a to-be-processed object. At this time, a region for the leakage magnetic field to function on the target surface is made local, and the region for the leakage magnetic field to function is periodically changed by relatively moving the region relative to the target from an origin on the target surface back to the origin. Also, a product of an average magnetic field strength of the leakage magnetic field at a predetermined position on the target surface and applied electric power is kept below 125 G·kW.
