Publication number: 20180320221Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to a method of detecting, identifying, and quantifying microbes in a wastewater treatment process or facility. The invention identifies the microbes by manipulation of their DNA. Microbes are collected, and a portion of the DNA sequence of a particular gene that is found in microbes is amplified. The amplified DNA sequence contains a highly variable region that can be used identify the microbe. Each amplified DNA sequence is matched against known sequences in various microbes. The identity of the microbes present in a sample can be determined and, sometimes, their biological functions too. Also, the relative quantities of the microbes, compared to the total microbial pool, can be determined. With this information, harmful microbes can be identified and targeted for removal from the wastewater, and beneficial microbes can be cultivated as desired.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 24, 2018Publication date: November 8, 2018Inventor: Trevor Wayne GHYLIN

Publication number: 20180320250Abstract: An electrode is formed of a bismuth brass alloy. The bismuth brass alloy contains about 30 weight percent to about 40 weight percent of zinc, about 1 weight percent to about 10 weight percent of bismuth, and the balance copper. The bismuth brass alloy has a microstructure that includes islands of bismuth dispersed within the base metal formed of copper and zinc and also includes bismuth at the grain boundaries of the base metal. As a large bulky atom with high resistivity against fluorine attack, bismuth segregates at the grain boundaries and blocks the fluorine diffusion into the lattice. In the presence of fluorine, the bismuth brass alloy forms a protective layer on the elongated surface of the body of the electrode. This protective layer inhibits reaction of the base metal formed of copper and zinc with fluorine and thereby preserves the surface of the electrode material.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 2, 2017Publication date: November 8, 2018Inventor: Leyla Ramin

Publication number: 20180320259Abstract: A multiple step method increases net tensile strengths of high pressure die cast (HPDC) aluminum components through an alloy- and process-dependent thermal treatment. The highest temperature feasible for solution treatment of an HPDC casting is determined by computational thermodynamics, kinetics and the gas laws based on the alloy composition and gas pressure in the finally solidified parts. Determining the maximum solution temperature involves mapping pressure in the bubbles of solidified material to avoid the formation of blisters by surface adjacent bubbles in the casting. To reduce residual tensile stress, the HPDC parts are air cooled after the solution treatment. Finally, a specific, multiple temperature aging cycle is utilized to improve the aging response of air cooled HPDC parts and increase net tensile strength.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 2, 2017Publication date: November 8, 2018Inventors: Qigui Wang, Jianghuai Yang, Maurice G. Publication number: 20180320263Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus for fabricating a physical vapor deposition (PVD) mandrel-target assembly are provided. One method includes providing a mandrel and a PVD target and placing a hollow center portion of the PVD target around a portion of the mandrel such that the portion of the mandrel resides in the hollow portion to create a PVD mandrel-target assembly including space between an exterior surface of the mandrel and an interior surface of the PVD target. The method further includes heating an interior surface of the mandrel, an exterior surface of the PVD target, and an adhesive material to a predetermined temperature and filling the space with the adhesive material to connect the exterior surface of the mandrel and the interior surface of the PVD target. Systems and apparatus for performing the above method are also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 4, 2017Publication date: November 8, 2018Inventor: Gerald L. Martinez

Publication number: 20180320266Abstract: A reactor device for chemical vapor deposition includes a reaction chamber having a side wall and a substrate stand having a peripheral surface and a main surface facing a reactive gas injector, the injector and said surface defining a work space therebetween. The substrate stand is arranged in the reaction chamber such as to form an annular passage between the peripheral surface of the substrate stand and the side wall of the reaction chamber. A system for discharging gases is in fluid connection with the reaction chamber. A purge gas injector includes an injection channel leading into the reaction chamber through an annular opening. A laminar flow of purge gas is injected through the annular opening and flows in said annular passage to an opening.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 19, 2018Publication date: November 8, 2018Applicant: KOBUS SASInventors: Patrice Nal, Christophe Borean, Julien Vitiello
