  • Patent number: 10134038
Abstract: A key is securely injected into a POS PIN pad processor in its usual operating environment. In response to entry of a personal identification number (PIN) into a PIN pad, the processor puts the PIN into a PIN block; puts additional random data into the PIN block; and encrypts the entire PIN block using asymmetric cryptography with a public key derived from the injected key residing in the PIN pad processor. The corresponding private key may be held securely and secretly by an acquirer processor for decrypting the PIN block to retrieve the PIN. The encrypted random data defends the PIN against dictionary attacks. Time stamp data and constant data encrypted with the PIN block enables a defense of the PIN against replay attacks and tampering. The method may also include accepting the PIN from a mobile phone in communication with the processor.

  • Patent number: 10134041
Abstract: A user conducts activities, such as researching a product online or visiting a store that sells the product. A user then utilizes a risk analysis system to receive and store user activity data for the user's activities. When a purchase attempt is made with the user's financial account, a merchant sends a transaction request to the risk analysis system. The risk analysis system locates a record for the user and determines whether the product is identified in the user activity data. If the product is identified, the risk analysis system provides a risk score to the merchant indicating that the transaction is unlikely fraudulent. Alternatively, identification of the product provides a positive factor among multiple factors considered in a transaction risk analysis. An absence of the product in the activity can be used as a neutral or negative factor among multiple factors considered in a risk analysis of the transaction.

  • Patent number: 10134053
Abstract: A method for adjusting pricing for advertisements of non-guaranteed delivery (“NDG”) advertising auctions includes retrieving dwell time information for users that engage advertisements streamed to the users in a display content stream. The method aggregates the advertisements into different groups according to display context (such as advertisement category, viewing device, product in which the advertisement is streamed, etc.) and computes short-click ratios of advertisements in each group based on a short-click threshold assigned to the group and the user dwell time information for the group. The method further determines average dwell time by users on advertisements in respective groups. The method adjusts pricing of the advertisements of a group for NGD bidding based on the short-click ratio and average dwell time of the group, to favor groups having higher dwell times and lower short-click ratios. Prices may be dynamically adjusted across different contexts based on user engagement information.
