  • Patent number: 10151221
Abstract: A system for variable actuation of an engine valve of an engine includes a master piston driven by a cam of a camshaft. A slave piston is driven by the master piston by a volume of pressurized fluid. The slave piston causes the engine valve to open, against the action of a spring. A control valve controls a communication between pressurized fluid and an environment at lower pressure, with which a fluid accumulator is in communication. A control unit is programmed for controlling the control valve according to one or more different valve modes. When one of these valve modes is actuated, the control valve opens the communication in advance with respect to the end of the lift cycle of the cam, and not after closing of the engine valve to prevent or reduce a decrease in pressure in the volume of pressurized fluid after closing of the engine valve.

Abstract: A turbocharger (1) including a twin scroll turbine and a valve assembly (40, 140) disposed in the exhaust gas inlet (24, 124) that is configured to control the flow exhaust gas through the turbine. The valve assembly (40, 140) includes two rotary valves (60, 160, 80, 180) actuated by a common valve shaft (44, 144). One of the valves (60, 180) may control exhaust gas flow to a volute or between volutes, and the other (80, 160) may control wastegate exhaust gas flow. The valve shaft (44, 144) is driven by an actuator to rotate about the valve shaft rotational axis (46, 146) such that the first valve (60, 160) and the second valve (80, 180) can each be selectively moved between a closed position and an open position, and the time sequence order of opening of the first valve (60, 160) and the second valve (80, 180) is selectable.

The carrier plate includes a valve plate that has a sinuous shape for redirecting flame back into the engine. The flame arrestor includes a plurality of layers of smooth metal sheets, with each layer having a pattern of apertures that is different in size and spacing than the pattern of apertures of its adjacent layer. The apertures of each layer are partially, and only partially, aligned with the perforations of its adjacent layers. The layers are laid flush against each other to minimize or eliminate air space between the layers, leaving only the air channels existing between the apertures of the metal sheet layers as passageways for exhaust gases to be released from the valve.
