Patent number: 10154850Abstract: A nasal balloon catheter and sponge unit is provided for stopping posterior epistaxis (nosebleed) in a quick and adjustable manner. The unit can be easily introduced into the bleeding nasal passage of a patient by a health care provider. Once inserted in the patient's nasal passage, the unit operates through inflation of a posterior balloon via a catheter, acting to stop the posterior bleed. In some embodiments, a second (anterior) balloon covers the inside of the nasal passage and is inflated subsequent to the inflation of the posterior balloon. Excess blood coming out of the nasal passage in the front is stopped by an absorbable sponge. If the packing is loose and blood escapes from the back of the nasal passage, a nut is utilized to squeeze the catheter against the nostril, hence more tightly pulling the posterior balloon to stop the blood.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2015Date of Patent: December 18, 2018Inventor: Tanveer Ahmed Janjua

Patent number: 10154897Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein are directed to intraocular lens systems includes at least one intraocular lens device and methods of using the same. The at least one intraocular lens device includes one or more photodetectors and an intraocular lens exhibiting a modifiable focal length. The one or more photodetectors are configured to detect light that is used to determine a presence of the object or the apparent object distance. The focal length of the intraocular lens can be modified depending on the determined presence of the object or the apparent object distance.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2015Date of Patent: December 18, 2018Assignee: ELWHA LLCInventors: Jesse R. Patent number: 10154898Abstract: The invention is directed to an injector device for introducing an intraocular lens into an eye. The injector device defines a longitudinal axis and includes an injector tip having a through guide channel for the intraocular lens. The channel has a rear inlet and a front outlet. A cassette accommodates the intraocular lens therein and two closure tips are configured for closing the cassette. The closure tips extend in the direction of the longitudinal axis axially farther rearwardly than the rear inlet. A method for prefolding the intraocular lens in the cassette is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 2015Date of Patent: December 18, 2018Assignee: Carl Zeiss Meditec AGInventors: Vincent Raquin, Dmitry Pankin, Brian Rathert

Patent number: 10154899Abstract: A automatic variable frequency electrolarynx with a microcontroller that generates a random but controlled frequency that creates a random tone. The controlled random tone allows the user of the electrolarynx to use the device without the monotone of standard electrolarynx. The electrolarynx also includes an encoder that allows the user to easily adjust the base tone of the device. The electrolarynx also includes an integrated LED light in the on/off switch to indicate whether the encoder is in volume control or tone control mode. The microcontroller also conducts an automatic power source check, and produces a musical tone when the battery is low.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2017Date of Patent: December 18, 2018Inventors: Michael Biggs, Matthew Griffin

Patent number: 10154900Abstract: A valve prosthesis device and methods for deployment is disclosed. The device comprises an expandable support stent and a valve assembly comprising a flexible conduit having an inlet end and an outlet, made of pliant material attached to the support beams providing collapsible slack portions of the conduit at the outlet. Flow is allowed to pass through the valve prosthesis device from the inlet to the outlet, but reverse flow is prevented as the collapsible slack portions of the valve assembly collapse inwardly. The device is configured so that retrograde flow will be altered from laminar flow and directed towards the leaflets to effect closing. The device can be deployed in a native heart valve position using a deployment catheter advanced through a body lumen such as a blood vessel, including an aorta.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2016Date of Patent: December 18, 2018Assignee: Edwards Lifesciences CorporationInventor: Stanton J.
