  • Publication number: 20190022858
Abstract: A robot configured to provide accurate control over the rate of spin or rotation of the robot. To control the rate of spin, the robot includes an inertia shifting (or moving) assembly positioned within the robot's body so that the robot can land on a surface with a target orientation and “stick the landing” of a gymnastic maneuver. The inertia shifting assembly includes sensors that allow the distance from the landing surface (or height) to be determined and that allow other parameters useful in controlling the robot to be calculated such as present orientation. In one embodiment, the sensors include an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a laser range finder, and a controller processes their outputs to estimate orientation and angular velocity. The controller selects the right point of the flight to operate a drive mechanism in the inertia shifting assembly to achieve a targeted orientation.

Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting grasping poses for handling target objects is disclosed. The system solves problem of grasp pose detection and finding suitable graspable affordance for picking objects from a confined and cluttered space, such as the bins of a rack in a retail warehouse by creating multiple surface segments within bounding box obtained from a neural network based object recognition module. Surface patches are created using a region growing technique in depth space based on surface normals directions. A Gaussian Mixture Model based on color and depth curvature is used to segment surfaces belonging to target object from background, thereby overcoming inaccuracy of object recognition module trained on a smaller dataset resulting in larger bounding boxes for target objects. Target object shape is identified by using empirical rules on surface attributes thereby detecting graspable affordances and poses thus avoiding collision with neighboring objects and grasping objects more successfully.

Abstract: In an eccentricity error correction method for an angle detector, an output shaft angle is determined in at least three measurement positions. A difference between an arm angle value at each measurement position and the output shaft angle detected at each measurement position is determined as an eccentricity error. An error curve indicates a relationship between the arm angle value and the eccentricity error, and is determined as a function of the arm angle value by approximating the eccentricity error at each measurement position with a sine wave of which a single cycle is a single rotation of the arm. A correction formula that associates the output shaft angle and the arm angle value is determined using the error curve. A correction value corresponds to the detected output shaft angle, and is determined based on the correction formula and correcting the eccentricity error when the arm is rotated.

Abstract: A product and method for providing oxygen remediating extruded or other melt-phase plastics for packages for reducing oxygen-linked damage to foods, pharmaceuticals, or other oxygen sensitive substances. The method for making oxygen remediating melt-phase incorporated plastics for packages and packaging elements generally includes the addition of an oxygen managing combination of compounds that restrict the migration of oxygen and/or eliminate migration oxygen through reaction with components of the polymer additive. Dry components remain inactive until moisture from the packaged food partially deliquesces a formulary component to trigger oxidation of a powdered metal or other oxidizing compound. Other additives absorb and distribute moisture and facilitate electron movement for improved oxidation.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for compression-molding a foamed polymer article, where compared with the shape of a final product to be molded, a foamed blank article has a redundant protruding part at a particular position, which is different from the shape of the final product; and when the foamed blank is hot-melt-molded again by using a mold, an external force is applied to compress the redundant protruding part to reduce the volume and increase the density, so that the final product obtained has a higher density at the position corresponding to the redundant protruding part than other parts. Thereby, the final product can have different densities at different positions, so as to meet the requirements in practical application.
