Abstract: A spectroscopy system includes a light source having an input light source, including semiconductor diodes generating an input beam with a wavelength shorter than 2.5 microns. Cladding-pumped fiber amplifiers receive the input beam and form an amplified optical beam having a spectral width. A nonlinear element broadens the spectral width of the amplified optical beam to 100 nm or more through a nonlinear effect forming an output beam that is pulsed. A filter is coupled to at least one of a lens and a mirror that receives the output beam and delivers the filtered output beam to a sample. A detection system includes detectors configured to receive the output beam reflected or transmitted from the sample. The detection system is configured to use a lock-in technique with the pulsed output beam and the spectroscopy system is adapted to detect chemicals in the sample.

Abstract: An interference fringe pattern generator forms an interference fringe pattern from the light rays diffused from a region of an object positioned against a background. A planar array of detector pixels is arranged to capture an image of the interference fringe pattern. A storage medium records information indicative of intensity values of the image of the interference fringe pattern captured by a selected group of pixels of the planar array of detector pixels. The information is recorded as a function of the optical path difference values traversed by the diffused light rays through the interference fringe pattern generator for each of the pixels in the selected group of pixels. A processor determines the spectral characteristics of the object based on the information indicative of the intensity values recorded by the storage medium and the optical path difference values traversed by the diffused light rays.

The curve of the classification channel (in the flow direction) may be in any of several configurations (e.g., circular, wavy, spiral, or helical).

Abstract: A system and method for accurately and efficiently testing a HEPA filter in a sterile environment, such as a clean room, by creating a closed-loop system. The system includes a multi-port interface including at least a challenge port and a verification port, each port being in communication with an area upstream from the HEPA filter. Through the challenge port, test substances are introduced to a supply air duct that is in communication with a HEPA filter. Through the verification port, a concentration of the test substances can be measured for comparison with a concentration that passed through the HEPA filter, i.e. downstream from the HEPA filter. As such, test substances can be dispersed throughout the air conditioning system before interacting with the HEPA filter, and accurately measured. The closed loop between the ports provides an accurate measurement of the concentration of test substances to test the HEPA filter.

Abstract: A system for measuring corrosion and corrosion-erosion rates in a high temperature, high pressure multiphase dynamic environment includes a plurality of ring-shaped test coupons disposed within a test vessel in a vertical arrangement relative to one another. A test fluid mixture is added to the vessel and the temperature and pressure are maintained such that the mixture exists in a multiphase condition that has a vertical stratification such that each test coupon is exposed to a different phase and/or combination of phases of the fluid. Impellers can be used to stir the fluid to provide a dynamic environment. The fluid can include particulate matter to simulate real world test conditions. Separator plates can be disposed at different vertical locations within the vessel to maintain separation between various phases of the fluids and further restrict particulate matter from migrating between sections of the test system.

Abstract: An optical sensing device includes a substrate; a first dielectric layer extending thereon; a plurality of pairs of opposite antennas patterned on the first layer; and a second dielectric layer that covers all of the antennas. Opposite antennas are, in each of the pairs, separated by a gap g, which, on average, is between 1 nm and 50 nm, as measured in a direction x parallel to a main plane of the substrate. The pairs of antennas have different geometries. The second layer covers all the antennas and defines an electro-magnetic field enhancement volume between the opposite antennas of each of the pairs, thanks to the gap. Electro-magnetic radiation can be concentrated in each volume, making it possible to optically sense an analyte via opposite antennas of each of the pairs. Such a device allows analytes to be funneled and guided into the field-enhanced volumes for deterministic sensing.
