Patent number: 10271856Abstract: The Vertebral Osteotomy Saw Guide allows precise osteotomies to be performed through the vertebral column in conjunction with a thread-wire saw. The guide is designed so that it can mount to rods commonly used during spinal surgery for spinal stabilization. The mount of the guide is a polyaxial mount, allowing the angle of the guide mount to be adjusted and locked to create a desired cutting plane to produce a precise osteotomy. The guide itself consists of two interdigitated pulley wheels that allow the thread-wire saw to pass smoothly through the guide. The simple, but unique design of the guide allows a surgeon to perform an osteotomy through the vertebral column cutting from one side of the vertebral column to the other. This unique orientation allows the osteotomy to be performed away from critical structures in the region (the spinal cord, aorta, and inferior vena cava).Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2016Date of Patent: April 30, 2019Assignee: The Johns Hopkins UniversityInventors: Jean-Paul Wolinsky, Dan Stoianovici

Patent number: 10271857Abstract: A spiked head assembly for a tibial jig for use during an orthopedic surgical procedure, includes a body and a mount for mounting the spiked head assembly on the tibial jig. The spiked head assembly comprises an elongate member having a central longitudinal axis, a first end and a second end and superior and inferior surfaces. The elongate member also has least one securing spike provided on the inferior surface towards the second end of the elongate member and configured to engage with a bone mass and arms extending from the elongate member in a direction perpendicular to the inferior surface. The arms are spaced apart from a plane that includes the central longitudinal axis and extends substantially perpendicularly to the inferior surface, so that the arms and the inferior surface define an access space for the surgical procedure.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2014Date of Patent: April 30, 2019Assignee: DEPUY IRELAND UNLIMITED COMPANY (R/F 040070/0868)Inventors: Kevin Amesbury, Oliver Coultrup, David Thomas
