    Abstract: In some embodiments, a lighting system comprises: a light source; a lens spaced apart from the light source and including a first surface to receive light from the light source, the lens further including a second surface through which at least a portion of the light received by the lens exits; and a cover spaced from the lens and including a first surface to receive at least a portion of the light that exits the lens, the cover further including a second surface through which at least a portion of the light received by the cover exits; the second surface of the lens including a portion convex with respect to the light source; the first surface of the cover including a portion convex with respect to the light source and disposed over the convex portion of the lens. In some embodiments, the second surface of the cover is flat.

Additional embodiments include a planar surface adjacent the convex surface, where the height of the lens decreases along the portion of the convex surface near the planar surface and along the planar surface as the distance from the optical axis increases. In further embodiments, the maximum height of the lens occurs between two horizontal sides of the lens.
