Abstract: The present invention discloses a deep vein thrombosis (“DVT”) device that is portable, tubeless, and battery-operated, which ensures that the patient will have maximum mobility during recovery. The DVT device provides a pneumatically controlled bladder portion, which is actuated by an electronically controlled air pump, where the pump/bladder combination is enclosed in a “pocket” of a wrap or cuff during use. All pump, battery, and control components are protectively housed in a plastic case that is permanently attached to the bladder portion. Once the pump/bladder combination is placed in the “pocket” the wrap or cuff will be sealed. The wraps or cuffs are single use, disposable garments designed to provide an absorbent barrier during use, where the bladder portion and air pump remain clean during use and can be reused by the patient or hospital staff. Tabs or extensions may be used to secure the pump/bladder combination after insertion into the “pocket” of the wrap or cuff.

Abstract: The present invention provides a dental material containing nanofibers and a biocompatible resin. In one embodiment, this dental material is an implant material, prosthetic material, or denture material and has mechanical strength suited to the site of use in the body as well as exceptional dimensional stability and exceptional wear resistance. Because the compressive strength can be controlled, excessive burden on the teeth when occlusal force is applied is suppressed when the dental material is used in the oral cavity. In addition, secondary caries can be suppressed because the antimicrobial properties make plaque less likely to adhere to the teeth and make the teeth less likely to be affected by bacteria. This dental material can be used without modification as a desired dental material, and can also be made into a desired dental material by molding as needed. In addition, materials produced from these nanofibers and this resin can also be used in applications other than dental materials.

Abstract: A method for providing an orally dissolvable composition of menthol, 1-arginine and one or more cannabinoids for quickly and reliably providing enhanced pharmacokinetic bioavailability of the cannabinoids to a mammalian subject. The orally dissolvable composition is preferably in the form of a thin orally dissolving mucoadhesive strip or film that is placed in the buccal cavity or under the tongue of a user. The menthol and 1-arginine function as permeation enhancers and local vasodilators, providing improved oral transmucosal absorption of the cannabinoids.

Abstract: The present invention recognizes that medical devices, such as but not limited to contact lenses, can be made having a coating made at least in part using printing technologies to provide drug storage and drug release structures. The coating preferably includes at least one drug reservoir layer and a least one barrier layer, and can include structures, such as but not limited to capillary structures that alone or in combination modulate the release of the drug from the coating. One aspect of the present invention is a medical device that incorporates a drug in at least one coating. A second aspect of the present invention is a method of making a medical device that incorporates a drug in at least one coating. A third aspect of the present invention is a method of using a medical device of the present invention to treat, prevent from having, prevent from developing, control, reduce the severity, or reduce the progression of a disease, disorder or condition of a subject.
