  • Patent number: 10306844
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a networked irrigation system include a battery powered networked irrigation controller that communicates with a backend server. The backend server monitor rainfall at the location of the irrigation controllers via third party weather resources. General irrigation is set to commence once every several days, and when rain falls at the location of an irrigation controller, the watering schedule is shifted to ensure that watering does not occur more frequently than desired. The irrigation controller uses a cellular transceiver modem to communicate with the backend server, and since the irrigation controller is battery powered, the cellular transceiver modem is maintained in an off state until just prior to commencing a scheduled watering, when the irrigation controller contacts the backend server.

  • Patent number: 10306863
Abstract: A robotic arm maneuvers a teat preparation cup and executes instructions from a robotic arm controller. The controller comprises an interface, a memory, and a processor. The processor instructs the sensor to perform a first scan. If the first scan discovers a first set of teats, the processor moves the robotic arm a first distance and instructs the sensor to perform a second scan. If the second scan discovers a second set of teats, the processor moves the robotic arm to a location under the first teat, and instructs the sensor to perform a third scan. The processor determines if the third scan discovers a third set of teats. If each of the first set, second set, and third set of discovered teats comprises the first teat, the processor instructs the robotic arm to attach the preparation cup to the first teat.

  • Patent number: 10306866
Abstract: A modular vivarium is assembled from pre-manufactured, transportable, sterile modules of distinct types, called pods. A hallway pod forms a spine, with cage-rack pods, ingress/egress pods and optional HVACPIT pods providing HVAC, power and IT services connected as spur pods to the hallway. Supplies and waste are also within modular pods. Temporary or single-use seals cover doorways during transit. Modules are joined or removed while maintaining sterility on both sides of the flush-to-wall doorway junction. A spur pod is sterilely connected to a hallway pod by aligning respective doors proximal, placing a seal between the pods around the doorways, sterilizing air between the pods, then removing the temporary seals from each doorway. Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and/or methods to protect an entity. A detector may detect an animal proximate to an entity based on sensor data from a plurality of sensors. The plurality of sensors may be positioned, for example, on the entity. In addition, a protector may administer a mechanical repellant from a protection device to repel the animal proximate to the entity. The mechanical repellant may include, for example, an ultrasound wave, a vibration wave, and so on. Moreover, the mechanical repellant may be specific to a type of animal to repel the animal proximate to the entity. The mechanical repellant may further be harmless to the animal (or the entity) and/or inapplicable to at least one other animal in the environment.

Abstract: A Helical Deer Rattle is disclosed. The rattle is made of two staves having tines of high-density polymer that replicates the density and mass of deer antlers. Each staff has a single helix-shaped tine. The two tines are formed so that they can be screwed together for silent transportation and easy storage. To use the rattle, a hunter strikes and rubs the two tines together to create the sound of deer antlers clashing, thus calling deer to the hunter. Each staff may have a handle with a guide groove, which holds the tine of other staff when the staves are screwed together. A cord may be included with each handle, to further assist in securing the tines to the handles of the other staff.

Abstract: A biological sample vitrification carrier and a method for freezing a biological sample are provided. Specifically, the carrier comprises a main body and a sealing cap that form a sealed frozen sample placing region. Frozen liquid circulating in a liquid circulating channel in the main body contacts with an outer surface of the frozen sample placing region and cools a biological sample in the frozen sample placing region. The biological sample vitrification carrier and the method in the present invention have the advantages of safety, nontoxicity and high vitrification and rewarming operation efficiency and have wide application prospects in the field of biological sample freezing.

The inventors have discovered that the beta adrenergic-like octopamine receptor Oct?2 serves as a key signaling molecule for ovulation and recruits protein kinase A and Ca2+/calmodulin-sensitive kinase II as downstream effectors for this activity. Oct?2R homozygous mutant females are sterile, and display normal courtship, copulation, sperm storage and post-mating rejection behavior but were unable to lay eggs.
