Abstract: A cased bore straddle packer has an upper unload sub sleeve with fluid ports that are selectively aligned with corresponding ports in an upper unload sub mandrel component and a lower unload sub sleeve with fluid ports that are selectively aligned with corresponding ports in a lower unload sub mandrel component to permit fluid to be selectively dumped from the straddle packer. Control of the alignment of the respective ports is effected by manipulating an auto-J ratchet machined into a multicomponent mandrel of the straddle packer. The auto-J ratchet is controlled from the surface using completion string pull and push manipulations.

Abstract: A packer for sealing in a tubular includes a mandrel on which a packing element is disposed between booster pistons. Each piston defines a sealed chamber with housed areas of the mandrel. A setting force compresses packing element between the booster piston, which shear free. Ratchet mechanisms including ratchet sleeves and body lock rings disposed between the pistons and the housed areas initially allow the pistons to move in a direction away from the packing element, which expands the respective sealed chamber. Abstract: A method for pre-pressurizing fluid control valves is provided. The fluid control valves may be part of a hydraulic fracturing tree, or may be part of a so-called zipper frac manifold. In either instance, the method uses a lubrication unit for pre-pressurizing the cavity of a valve by injecting lubricant under high pressure. The fracturing tree or zipper frac manifold is useful for conducting hydraulic fracturing operations as part of the completion of a well. Each control valve has an upper lube fitting extending to an upper lube channel which communicates with an upper pocket. Similarly, each control valve includes a lower lube fitting extending to a lower lube channel which communicates with a lower pocket. A pressurized lubricating fluid is forced into the lube fittings to pre-pressurize the control valves prior to the fracturing fluid passing through the control valves.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for improving the production efficiency of a well and preventing gas lock. The apparatus is a downhole pump and comprises a barrel, a reciprocating plunger and a body having a plurality of inlet valves. The apparatus does not require outlet valves. The body and inlet valves are positioned above the barrel and plunger, thus eliminating gas lock. Fluids enter the body through the valves and, during upstrokes of the plunger, are forced up the tubing string to the surface equipment. Modularity of the components permits pump components to be changed as the productivity of the well fluctuates and also allows production of more fluids with a smaller casing. The invention prevents gas lock by permitting gasses to escape between a sliding valve and a valve rod connected to the plunger. Additionally, an exit valve sealably engages the valve rod, which forms an aperture. During operation of the pump, the gasses escape through the aperture in the valve rod and rise up the tubing string.

Abstract: A fracturing operation stimulate a region of a well by alternating between pumping liquid intervals and injecting gas intervals to the region. A given liquid interval can include slick water with or without proppant. The gas interval can include produced gas, and a given interval can be injected at pressures above or below fracture initiation pressures. In a depleted region, the stimulation can energize an existing fracture and can carry the proppant into the energized fracture. In an under-developed region, the stimulation can create a new fracture and can carry proppant into the new fracture. The liquid delivers the proppant, and turbulence from the injected gas at the fracture can help further carry the proppant therein. A diverter then temporarily seals the energized or new fracture so the injected gas temporarily sealed therein can interface with residual formation fluid therein, providing for enhanced oil recovery.

Abstract: A method of assembling a rotor is provided, in which each rotor disk comprising a connecting element. The method includes: (a) applying heat to a localized region of a first rotor disk of a plurality of rotor disks to selectively deflect a first connecting element of the first rotor disk, wherein the first rotor disk is stationary during heating; (b) installing the first rotor disk onto a rotor stack containing at least one rotor disk; and (c) repeating steps (a) and (b) for each rotor disk of the plurality of rotor disks; and (d) allowing the rotor disks, when stacked, to cool. When cooled, the respective connecting element of each rotor disk that has been selectively deflected contracts into an interference fit with an adjacent rotor disk. The cooling system is configured to modulate the flow of cooling air to reduce the amount of cooling air flowing to that region of the engine during periods in which less cooling is needed. The cooling system includes a flow limiter configured to choke the mass flow rate of the cooling air provided to the region during modulation to avoid providing more cooling air than is needed to adequately cool that region of the engine.

The cooling device's peripheral edge is in contact with the platform; a first surface portion forms a first cavity between the cooling device and platform and has impingement holes to impinge onto the platform; a second surface portion forms a second cavity between the cooling device and platform; a barrier in contact with the platform forms a connection between two sections of the edge and fluidically separates the first and second cavity. The cooling device is connected at the edge to the blade so the first and second cavity are formed between the cooling device and blade. The blade has a supply passage, connecting a hollow core and the second cavity for supplying cooling fluid to the second cavity and the first cavity is supplied with cooling fluid via the impingement holes.
