Abstract: An end effector for a surgical clip applier includes a body having, a clip revolver rotatably coupled within a bore of the body and containing one or more surgical clips, a torsion member constrained between the body and the clip revolver to exert rotational force on the clip revolver, and a clip advancer that is slidingly coupled within an inner bore of the clip revolver. The inner bore of the clip revolver includes a plurality of grooves in which the clip advancer may translate. The clip advancer aligns with a distal-most surgical clip as it travels within a first of the grooves. The torsion member rotates the clip revolver as the clip advancer travels distally from the first groove so that the clip advancer travels into a second groove of the grooves, such that the clip advancer is in alignment with a second distal-most surgical clip.

Abstract: Described are coordinated apparatus and methods for drug targeting, clearing the lumen, placing implants within the wall of, and stenting, as necessary, any tubular anatomical structure with single luminal entry. Miniature balls, or miniballs, are introduced into the wall aeroballistically from within the lumen, or small arcuate bands called stays inserted through the outer tunic by means of a hand tool. When miniballs must be placed too closely together to be controlled by hand, a positional control system assists in discharge. Implantation within or proximal to diseased tissue targeting, and thus concentrating the medication in that tissue, miniballs and stays can be used to deliver and controllably release multiple drugs, a radionuclide, or an open or closed loop smart-pill, for example. A glossary of terms follows the specification. Balance of abstract appended to the section entitled Summary of the Invention.

Abstract: The present invention relates a tourniquet, where tightening of the tourniquet is performed by linear motion by pulling a pull-cord. The tourniquet comprises a tensioning device and a strap. The first end of the strap is coupled to the tensioning device. The second end of the strap is wrapped around a limb and fixed to the tensioning device. The tightening of the tourniquet is achieved by pulling a pull-cord. Linear motion by the pull-cord is translated into winding up the strap inside the tensioning device, and thereby achieving a time-effective tightening of the tourniquet without the need of high forces.

Abstract: A surgical apparatus comprises a body, an ultrasonic transducer, a shaft, and an end effector. The ultrasonic transducer is operable to convert electrical power into ultrasonic vibrations. The shaft couples the end effector and the body together. The end effector comprises an ultrasonic blade in acoustic communication with the ultrasonic transducer. The ultrasonic blade includes a recess region having a plurality of recesses. The recess region is tapered such that the cross-sectional area of the recess region decreases along the length of the recess region. The ultrasonic blade is also curved such that a central longitudinal axis of the ultrasonic blade extends along a curved path. A reference circuit is used to account for voltage drops of unknown values during operation of the surgical apparatus.
