Abstract: A method and system for adjusting the AUC limit threshold to reduce the number of false alarms. In one embodiment the method includes the steps of: defining a AUC limit threshold; defining a saturation limit threshold for a desired oxygen saturation level; periodically measuring a patient's measured oxygen saturation level over time; calculating the difference between the patient's measured oxygen saturation and defined saturation limit threshold; summing the differences between the patient's measured oxygen saturation and defined saturation limit threshold over a time interval wherein the patient's measured oxygen saturation is less than defined saturation limit threshold, wherein the summation defines a measured AUC; comparing the measured AUC over the time interval against the defined AUC limit threshold; determining regions in which the measured AUC exceeds the defined AUC limit threshold; and adjusting the AUC limit threshold.

Abstract: To generate images, in which a first row area of a multiple-row detector is illuminated with a first X-ray spectrum and a second row area of the multiple-row detector, trailing in the direction of travel, is illuminated with a second X-ray spectrum, image data is recorded at a pitch chosen such that one slice image can be reconstructed in each case for a sectional position for the first and the second row area. Correspondingly, for the sectional position, the respective slice image for the first and the second row area is reconstructed. For a third row area, illuminated with the first and the second X-ray spectrum, a reference sectional image is reconstructed as a slice image. To generate motion-reduced first and second spectral images assigned to the first and second row area respectively, the slice images of the first and second row areas are registered to the reference sectional image.

Abstract: For a multi-modal emission tomography system, an improved control system increases the likelihood of optimal image quality, satisfaction of physician goals, and/or avoids repetition in scanning and the corresponding increase in dose burden. The control system is divided into two or more arrangements. One arrangement receives goal information and outputs reconstruction settings and generic scan settings to satisfy the goal information. Another arrangement converts the generic scan settings to emission tomography system-specific scan settings, which are used to detect emissions. The separation of the arrangements allows independent operation so that different system-specific conversions may be used for different systems.

Abstract: A fusion imaging system co-registers and fuses real time ultrasound images with reference images such as those produced by MRI or CT imaging. In an illustrated implementation, previously acquired CT or MRI or ultrasound images are loaded into the system. An ultrasound system is operated in conjunction with a tracking system so that the ultrasound probe and images can be spatially tracked. A computerized image processor registers the probe position with a reference image of the anatomy being scanned by the probe and determines whether the probe appears to be inside the skin line of the subject. If that is the case it is due to probe compression of the subject, and the reference image is modified to locate the skin line in the reference image in front of the ultrasound probe. The modified reference images can then be readily co-registered and fused with the ultrasound images produced by the probe.

The surgical apparatus has three distraction mechanisms configured to increase or decrease a height between a first support structure and a second support structure. A tilt mechanism comprises at least one of the three distraction mechanisms. Each distraction mechanism is supported by at least two guide shafts such that movement of each distraction mechanism is aligned by the corresponding at least two guide shafts and loading is supported by the corresponding at least two guide shafts.

Abstract: A balloon dilator device, comprising an annularly shaped, cylindrical type structure having walls that are expandable from a radially collapsed state to a radially expanded state by inflation of a balloon inserted within the annular structure. Once the walls have been expanded, they remain in the expanded state even if the balloon is deflated, because the radially expanded state is a state of minimum mechanical potential energy, and in order to return to the collapsed state, the structure would have to pass a state of higher potential energy. The device walls require sufficient stiffness in their longitudinal direction to enable the device to be pushed into a minimally invasive incision made in the subject. This device stiffness can be achieved either by its mechanical material properties, or by its substantially closed wall structure, or by use of a stiff protector sheath used to protect the walls during insertion.

Abstract: An all-suture anchor for attaching soft tissue to bone while creating an interference fit within a bone hole, and a deployment device for the all-suture anchor. The all-suture anchor includes an anchor body having first and second ends. The second end is folded toward the first end, creating a looped distal end of the anchor body, while the first and second ends of the anchor body form a proximal end. The anchor body is composed of a first material having a first density. A passing filament, of a second (different) density, is woven through the anchor body at passing locations such that a pair of free ends of the passing filament extends from the proximal end of the anchor body. The all-suture anchor additionally includes a binding filament bound axially at the proximal end of the anchor body around the first end and the second end of the anchor body.

Abstract: A method of coupling a first portion of an anatomy to a second portion of the anatomy includes coupling first and second bones of the anatomy with a bone-tendon-bone implant. The bone-tendon-bone implant has a first bone end, a second bone end and a replacement tendon between the first and second bone ends. The first and second bone ends are positioned in corresponding first and second bores of the first and second bones. The first bone end is secured to the first bone with a first bone anchor. A second anchor coupled to the bone-tendon-bone implant is passed through and outside the second bore. The second anchor is coupled to an adjustable suture construct having two adjustable suture loops. Tensioning at least one of first and second ends of the adjustable suture construct tensions the replacement tendon and positions the first bone relative to the second bone.

The suture track has a first housing, a second housing receive against the first housing, a storage space defined between the first and second housings, and a thread shelf positioned within the storage space. The suture thread is at least partially contained within the storage space and has a first portion extending toward the thread shelf and a second portion extending toward the thread shelf such that the first and second portions of the suture thread intersect at the thread shelf. Abstract: In one embodiment, a suture attachment catheter configured to repair a heart valve by inserting a suture in a valve leaflet of a beating heart of a patient includes a handle control, a flexible catheter body, and a suture attachment assembly at a distal end of the catheter body. The suture attachment assembly can include a rail between a distal clamping jaw hingedly attached to the rail, and a proximal clamping jaw. One of the proximal clamping jaw or distal clamping jaw can be selectively slideable with respect to the other on the rail using a jaw actuator of the control handle to adjust a distance between the proximal clamping jaw and the distal clamping jaw. A needle can be selectively slideable within the catheter body by using a needle actuator of the proximal handle control to penetrate a valve leaflet and insert a suture through the valve leaflet when the valve leaflet is captured between the proximal clamping jaw and the distal clamping jaw.

Abstract: Suture clip deployment devices for applying suture clips to sutures are described. Some embodiments can include a generally tubular main body and a vacuum port located at the distal end, a hollow inner body longitudinally slidable within the main body and extending from the main body at its distal end, and a suture recess located in the generally tubular main body. At least one suture clip configured to frictionally fit on an outer surface of the inner body is deployed during use. Clip deployment can occur after a vacuum source is applied to the device so as to draw the suture into the device. The suture lines can be retrieved through the suture recess, and the device can be actuated so as to deliver the suture clip off the delivery device and onto the suture, locking the suture in place.
