  • Patent number: 10531965
Abstract: A time-dependent decay behavior is incorporated into one or more joint actuator control parameters during operation of a lower-extremity, prosthetic, orthotic or exoskeleton device. These parameters may include joint equilibrium joint impedance (e.g., stiffness, damping) and/or joint torque components (e.g., gain, exponent). The decay behavior may be exponential, linear, piecewise, or may conform to any other suitable function. Embodiments presented herein are used in a control system that emulates biological muscle-tendon reflex response providing for a natural walking experience. Further, joint impedance may depend on an angular rate of the joint. Such a relationship between angular rate and joint impedance may assist a wearer in carrying out certain activities, such as standing up and ascending a ladder.

  • Patent number: 10531966
Abstract: The present invention relates to a prosthetic leg for those having a femoral amputee, namely those having an above the knee stump, where certain movements can be difficult to perform. Known prosthetic knee joints that are weight-activated cannot substantially assist short-stumped individuals. The weight placed on the toe will typically cause disengagement of any stance mode there otherwise might be. The invention provides a solution to the problems addressed above. The present invention seeks to provide an improved mechanically operated prosthesis for a femoral amputee. The invention also provides an improved electrically-operated prosthesis for a transfemoral amputee.

The supports may be independently raised, lowered, rolled or tilted about a longitudinal axis, laterally shifted and angled upwardly or downwardly. Position sensors are provided to sense all of the foregoing movements. The sensors communicate data to a computer for coordinated adjustment and maintenance of the inboard ends of the patient supports in an approximated position during such movements. A longitudinal translator provides for compensation in the length of the structure when the supports are angled upwardly or downwardly. A patient trunk translator provides coordinated translational movement of the patient's upper body along the respective patient support in a caudad or cephalad direction as the patient supports are angled upwardly or downwardly for maintaining proper spinal biomechanics and avoiding undue spinal traction or compression.
