Publication number: 20200032004Abstract: This document describes a process of producing gel microparticles, which are consistent in size and morphology. Through the process of coacervation, large volumes of gel microparticle slurry can be produced by scaling up reactor vessel size. Particles can be repeatedly dehydrated and rehydrated in accordance to their environment, allowing for the storage of particles in a non-solvent such as ethanol. Gel slurries exhibit a Bingham plastic behavior in which the slurry behaves as a solid at shear stresses that are below a critical value. Upon reaching the critical shear stress, the slurry undergoes a rapid decrease in viscosity and behaves as a liquid. The rheological behavior of these slurries can be adjusted by changing the compaction processes such as centrifugation force to alter the yield-stress. The narrower distribution and reduced size of these particles allows for an increase in FRESH printing fidelity.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 5, 2018Publication date: January 30, 2020Inventors: Andrew Hudson, Thomas Hinton, Adam Feinberg, Andrew Lee

Publication number: 20200032020Abstract: A heat energy storage system may have a shape-stabilized composite prepared using an easy impregnation method involving a porous Ca2+-doped MgCO3 matrix and PEG as the functional phase. The heat storage capability, microstructures, and interactions with the PEG/CaMgCO3 composite can be characterized by DSC, SEM imaging, FT-IR spectroscopy, and TGA. Likely because of the synergistic phase change effect of CaMgCO3 and PEG, the PEG/CaMgCO3 composites can have high thermal enthalpies, and their enthalpy efficiencies are substantially higher than those of traditional shape stabilized PCMs. The functional material PEG can permeate porous CaMgCO3 matrices under capillary action. Liquid PEG can be stabilized within the porous matrix, and/or the CaMgCO3 matrix can improve the thermal stability of the PEG. The high heat energy storage properties and good thermal stability of such organic-inorganic composites offers utility in a range of applications, including thermal energy storage.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 27, 2018Publication date: January 30, 2020Applicant: King Fahd University of Petroleum and MineralsInventors: Md. Publication number: 20200032027Abstract: Unexpectedly unique and environmentally friendly composite material structures, storage articles fabricated therefrom, and related methods. The composite structure includes at least one or more fiber-containing layers, such as fiberboard or other layers having fibers from natural and/or synthetic sources, and one or more mineral-containing layers. The mineral-containing layer(s) comprises a thermoplastic bonding agent fixing the mineral particles in place. The fiber-containing layer(s) and mineral-containing layer(s) can be shaped, sized, and manufactured such that the composite structure formed therefrom is capable of being machined to form the storage article. The composite structure can be repulped and recycled without the use of dispersions, emulsions, or aqueous solutions. Further, the composite reduces layer mass requirements for heat seal, barrier, and fiber adhesion compared to polymer layers.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 3, 2019Publication date: January 30, 2020Inventor: Christopher R. Publication number: 20200032033Abstract: The present invention provides a method for reducing a drawing force in a forming process of a photocurable material by adding a radical scavenger capable of terminating free radical polymerization into a substrate for carrying the photocurable material. The method comprises: providing a mold release composition at least comprising a radical scavenger and a molding agent; and forming a mold release film from the mold release composition by curing forming or by combining with an upper surface of a plate, thereby preparing the substrate. In this way, during the light curing reaction of the photocurable material by irradiation with a light source, the radical scavenger in the upper surface of the substrate contacting with the photocurable material can re act with free radicals in the photocurable material, such that the photocurable material forms an uncured layer for which light curing does not occur on the upper surface of the substrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 27, 2018Publication date: January 30, 2020Inventors: Jeng-Ywan Jeng, Yih-Lin Cheng, Ding-Shyan Chen, Zhen-You Chen
