Abstract: A full depth ophthalmic surgical system includes a femtosecond laser source and an optical coherence tomographer. The system is capable of performing surgical procedures along the entire length of the eye from the cornea to the retina. In one embodiment, the system uses a removeable focal point extension assembly to extend the reach of the focal point location of the laser beam to the vitreous humor of the eye. In another embodiment, the optical system of the ophthalmic surgical system is optimized to focus the laser beam and imaging light in the vitreous humor of the eye. For procedures performed posterior to the lens, a method for calibrating the full depth ophthalmic surgical system uses the focal zone of the optical coherence tomographer beam as a proxy for the focal zone of the femtosecond laser source to. The system can be used to perform treatment in the vitreous humor, including treating floaters and liquification of the vitreous humor.

  • Publication number: 20200038248
Abstract: The present invention provides methods for improving negative pressure wound therapy. The application of negative pressure to a wound bed with a biodegradable biocompatible fibrous scaffold facilitates cell infiltration into the scaffold serving as a 3D structure, as opposed to solely application of the scaffold without any pressure, which shows minimal cell penetration. In vitro studies show that infiltration of immune cells into scaffolds paves the way for their polarization towards the phenotype pertinent to the remodeling stage 2. The cell penetration factor causes less intense immune response of the host body, leading the inflammation to proceed to the remodeling stage.

Abstract: A pump generates a vacuum at a wound site via first tubing. A negative pressure circuit is defined by a canister, the first tubing and the wound site. A controller of a therapy device operates the pump to apply a first negative pressure to the entirety of the negative pressure circuit, following which ambient air is allowed to flow into the negative pressure circuit. The controller also operates the pump to apply a second negative pressure to a selected portion of the negative pressure circuit exclusive of the wound site, following which ambient air is allowed to flow into the selected portion. A quantity of fluid to be delivered to the wound site via a second tubing is determined by comparing measured parameters related to the flow of air into the negative pressure circuit to parameters measured with respect to the flow of air into the selected portion.

Abstract: A leg support assembly for a medical examination device having tracks, a frame and a leg pad. The frame is configured so the leg pad mounted thereto is angled relative to the horizontal in a stowed position within the examination device. Guide members are movable along the tracks to maneuver the leg pad between stowed and deployed positions. The tracks include a horizontal section for forward movement, an incline section enabling elevation, and a detent to retain the leg pad in a deployed position. When deployed, the upper surface of the leg pad is level or co-planar with the seat cushion of the examination device. Greater vertical displacement of the leg pad is achieved than the vertical height of the leg support assembly when stowed.
