Publication number: 20200041839Abstract: A privacy display comprises a polarised output spatial light modulator, reflective polariser, plural polar control retarders and a polariser. In a privacy mode of operation, on-axis light from the spatial light modulator is directed without loss, whereas off-axis light has reduced luminance. Further, display reflectivity is reduced for on-axis reflections of ambient light, while reflectivity is increased for off-axis light. The visibility of the display to off-axis snoopers is reduced by means of luminance reduction and increased frontal reflectivity to ambient light. In a public mode of operation, the liquid crystal retardance is adjusted so that off-axis luminance and reflectivity are unmodified.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 14, 2019Publication date: February 6, 2020Inventors: Michael G. Publication number: 20200041867Abstract: A pump beam (12) is pre-tilted by subjecting the pump beam to pulse-front-tilting, the thus obtained tilted-pulse-front pump beam is then coupled into the nonlinear optical medium. THz radiation is generated in the optical medium by nonlinear optical processes, in particular by optical rectification, by the pump beam. A pulse-front-tilt of the pump beam satisfying the velocity matching condition of vp,cs cos(?)=vTHz,f is induced as a sum of a plurality of pulse-front-tilts separately induced as a partial pulse-front-tilt of the pump beam in subsequent steps. The last step of pulse-front-tilting of the pump beam is performed by coupling the pump beam into the nonlinear optical medium through a stair-step structure (40) formed in an entry surface (51) of the nonlinear optical medium which forms an angle (?) of a given non-zero size with an exit surface (52) of said nonlinear optical medium.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 6, 2019Publication date: February 6, 2020Inventors: János Hebling, Gábor Almási, László Pálfalvi, József András Fülöp, Gergõ Krizsán

Publication number: 20200041870Abstract: Embodiments relate to a high power supercontinuum (SC) fiber optical source. The SC fiber optical source includes a prebroadening optical fiber that broadens the spectrum of a lower power intermediate optical signal before final amplification. The spectrum broadening creates spectral components which facilitate further spectrum broadening of amplified signal in final nonlinear stage, allowing to achieve flatter and wider spectrum, and reduces nonlinear Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) that could damage SC fiber optical source components or limit the output power of the SC fiber optical source signal, thus enabling higher output power. After amplification in booster, passing at least part of broadened spectrum, the optical signal spectrum is further broadened by injecting the optical signal into a nonlinear stage to create a SC optical signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 28, 2018Publication date: February 6, 2020Inventors: Vladimir Protopopov, Greg G. Publication number: 20200041881Abstract: An improvement in quality is achieved by improving a contrast ratio. Therefore, in a projector device including a light source device using a solid-state light source (AR) includes a temperature adjustment device (190) capable of setting a state in which a temperature of at least the solid-state light source is caused to increase. Then, a determination unit (12) determines a luminance state of an image and a control unit (16) controls a heat state of the solid-state light source (AR) by controlling the temperature adjustment device (190) on the basis of a determination result. In particular, by increasing the temperature of the solid-state light source (AR) in accordance with an image, light emission efficiency is lowered to decrease luminance.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 28, 2017Publication date: February 6, 2020Applicant: SONY CORPORATIONInventor: Keisuke HOMMA
