Abstract: A catalyst system has been designed that disrupts the sedimentation process. The catalyst system achieves this by saturating key feed components before the feed components are stripped into their incompatible aromatic cores. The efficacy of this disruptive catalyst system is particularly evident in a hydrocracker configuration that runs in two-stage-recycle operation. The catalyst is a self-supported multi-metallic catalyst prepared from a precursor in the hydroxide form, and the catalyst must be toward the top level of the second stage of the two-stage system.

Abstract: A two-step gasification process and apparatus for the conversion of solid or liquid organic waste into clean fuel, suitable for use in a gas engine or a gas burner, is described. The waste is fed initially into a primary gasifier, which is a graphite arc furnace. Within the primary gasifier, the organic components of the waste are mixed with a predetermined amount of air, oxygen or steam, and converted into volatiles and soot. The volatiles consist mainly of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and may include a variety of other hydrocarbons and some fly ash. The gas exiting the primary gasifier first passes through a hot cyclone, where some of the soot and most of the fly ash is collected and returned to the primary gasifier.

Abstract: The present invention relates to hop products, in particular to hop products for flavouring beer and enhancing the aroma of beers, ales and other brewed beverages. More specifically, the present invention relates to such products which are 100% hop-derived and which are readily dispersible in cold wort and beer. As a result of our research, we have determined that polar hop extracts, in particular aqueous extracts of hops, have emulsifying properties for hop oil or hop oil-based hop extract products. This has allowed us to develop hop flavouring and aroma products for beer consisting solely of natural products, without the need for artificial emulsifiers and thickening agents or solvents. Surprisingly and unexpectedly, we have found that our combinations of hop-derived constituents is readily dispersible in cold wort and in beer, even when formulated as a 100% hop-derived paste, and provides excellent hop flavour and aroma to the finished beer.

An external PBR array is coupled to an indoor storage tank system with a volume equal to or greater than the volume of the PBR array. A controller can be used to optimize the growth of biomass by optimizing three key growth parameters: exposure to sunlight, temperature and nutrients. The indoor tank system serves as a reservoir where algae can be protected from harsh ambient conditions, minimizing the cost of energy for heating and cooling that would normally be incurred to accommodate ambient temperature swings caused by weather if the biomass is always stored in an outdoor PBR array. During cold winter nights, the biomass can be brought indoors to conserve thermal energy.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a preparation of CD140a/PDGFR? positive cells that comprises oligodendrocyte progenitor cells co-expressing OLIG2 and CD140a/PDGFR?. The preparation of cells is derived from pluripotent cells that were derived from skin cells, fibroblasts, umbilical cord blood, peripheral blood, bone marrow, or other somatic cells. The cell preparation has an in vivo myelination efficiency that is equal to or greater than the in vivo myelination efficiency of a preparation of A2B5+/PSA-NCAM? sorted fetal human tissue derived oligodendrocyte progenitor cells. Methods of making, isolating and using the disclosed cell preparation are also described.

Abstract: Methods are described herein for isolating clonal populations of T cells having a defined genetic modification. The methods are performed, at least in part, in a microfluidic device comprising one or more sequestration pens. The methods include the steps of: maintaining individual T cells (or precursors thereof) that have undergone a genomic editing process in corresponding sequestration pens of a microfluidic device; expanding the T cells into respective clonal populations of T cells; detecting, in one or more T cells of each clonal population, the absence of a cell surface marker that was present in the individual T cells (or precursors thereof); and detecting, in one or more T cells of each clonal population, the presence of a first nucleic acid sequence that is indicative of the presence of an on-target genome edit in the clonal population of T cells. Also described are compositions comprising one or more clonal populations of T cells isolated according to the methods disclosed herein.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method for in vitro activation of immune cells for immune cell therapies. The method includes contacting a population of immune cells with ?-glucan to obtain a population of conditioned cells. When introduced into a subject, the population of conditioned immune cells inhibits tumor growth in the subject. A method for inhibiting tumor growth using the population of conditioned immune cells is also provided.

Abstract: Maturation signals provided via cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)/Exchange proteins activated by cAMP (Epac) signaling during in vitro generation of blood cells from reprogrammed cells or pluripotent stem cells achieve superior function of hematopoietic cells differentiated from stem cells. The cAMP/Epac signaling enables an increased efficiency of production of precursor to blood and to blood cells. These generated blood cells can be utilized for therapeutics, treatments, disease prevention, drug discovery, personalized medicine, regenerative medicine, cell and tissue generation, universal donor banks and related methods and compositions.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for preparing lymphoid progenitors. The inventors took advantage of their original and relevant Warts, Hypogammaglobulinemia, Infections and Myelokathexis (WHIM) Syndrome (WS) model and the access to blood samples from five WS patients to investigate the impact of CXCR4 desensitization on BM and extra-medullary (i.e. splenic) hematopoiesis and hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) recirculation. They developed, for the first time, an original in vitro system permitting to selectively expand HSPCs to obtain lymphoid progenitors by using an original cocktail of cytokines. In particular, the present invention relates to an in vitro method for preparing lymphoid progenitors by culturing HSPCs in an appropriate culture medium comprising an effective amount of a cocktail of cytokines consisting in SCF, IL-3, IL-6, IL-7, Flt-3, and CXCL12.

Abstract: Disclosed are compositions and methods for engineering muscle tissue such as cardiac muscle and skeletal muscle. Tissue engineering platforms use a substrate and a protein micropattern. The protein micropattern forms a plurality of protein lanes and at least one protein bridge that connects adjacent protein lanes having a connection angle is less than 90 degrees. Tissue engineering platforms can promote muscle cell alignment and be used for cell-based pharmacological studies. Also disclosed are degradable substrates for transferring a protein micropattern in the form of a plurality of protein lanes and at least one protein bridge that connects adjacent protein lanes having a connection angle is less than 90 degrees.

Abstract: In related-art methods of differentiating pluripotent stem cells into a desired cell type, there has not been established a differentiation induction method using human ES/iPS cells and being stable and highly efficient. A method of inducing differentiation into a desired cell type within a short period of time and with high efficiency by attenuating differentiation resistance of a pluripotent stem cell to generate a pluripotent stem cell that actively proceeds to a differentiated cell type has been found, and thus the present invention has been completed.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods involving the targeting of 5HT biosynthesis in gut insulin-negative cells to convert them into insulin-positive cells. Also, disclosed are methods for treating a disease or disorder in a mammal, preferably a human, associated with impaired pancreatic endocrine function, by administering a therapeutically effective amount of an enumerated active agent that reduces the expression, biosynthesis, signaling or biological activity of serotonin or increases its degradation, wherein administering comprises delivering the agent to Gut Ins? cells in the mammal. Other embodiments of the method are directed to therapy wherein an agent that significantly reduces FOXO1 expression, biosynthesis, signaling or biological activity or increases its degradation is administered in addition to the agent that reduces serotonin, or alternatively an agent that reduces FOXO1 expression is targeted to serotonin-positive gut enteroendocrine cells.
