Abstract: The present invention provides a molecular network, devices, and assays for early diagnosis of angina patients experiencing acute chest pain with negative Troponin, and it reflects on disease progression and severity. The invention also allows for the diagnosis of angina in suspected patients with history of chest pain; differentiates between angina patients and acute myocardial infarction; as well as diagnose coronary artery disease patients from other non-cardiac and healthy individuals. The present invention indicates that the downregulation of Nourin IncCTB9H12.4 in coronary artery disease patients compared to non-cardiac and healthy controls, is significantly associated with upregulation of miR_106b and miR_137 resulting in overexpression of mRNA ANAPC11 and mRNA FTLH-17; respectively. Therefore, the invention provides a novel non-invasive good positive test to diagnose angina patients which also, has a good negative test to exclude chest pain non-angina patients and healthy individuals.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for the recovery of cobalt, nickel and manganese from ores, concentrates, tailings, scrap alloys and spent batteries in an oxidic form, which is suitable for direct use in the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries, in particular. The process is unique in being able to recover cobalt, in particular, from concentrated solutions wherein the nickel to cobalt ratio is close to unity, rather than the more common 10:1 or 1:100. The process comprises selective oxidative precipitation of each metal under differing conditions of pH and ORP (oxidation-reduction potential). Sodium hypochlorite is the preferred precipitant, since it does not generate any acid, and is therefore self-buffering at the selected pH. A unique aspect of the process is to use Mn(VII) to effect the precipitation of Mn(ll).

Abstract: The present invention improves the surface modification of NiTi alloys used for instance in medical devices through treatment with hydrogen particles in a suitable gaseous discharge and with oxygen atoms. The technique according to the present invention provides the formation of biocompatible solely titanium oxide layer thus preventing nickel to be present in the top surface layer. Furthermore this enables nanostructuring of the surface which depends on the treatment conditions. Devices made from NiTi alloys treated with the method according to the present invention have improved biocompatibility; platelets do not readily attach and activate on such surfaces and the thrombus formation rate is reduced in comparison with extensively used untreated NiTi alloys.

Abstract: A system provides impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) of a marine structure (50) and powers a load in a load arrangement (100) arranged on the marine structure (50) and in contact with the water (10). The power source provides a supply current to generate an electrical potential of the marine structure. The load arrangement (100) has an electrode arranged (130) to extend from the load arrangement into the water for transferring the supply current via the water. The load (20) is coupled between the electrode (130) and a power node (120). The power source is connected to the marine structure and to the power node. The load arrangement is arranged to use the supply current to provide power to the load. Thereto the supply voltage may have an AC component at a high frequency. The load may be an UV-C LED for emitting anti-fouling light.

Each of the plateable regions include an associated plateable layer of electrically conductive material for being electroplated with a different plateable finish. Several different geometries and configurations of the barrier and/or the plateable regions are provided to prevent migration of plating material from one of the plateable regions acting as bipolar electrode while another one of the plateable regions is being electroplated. A non-plateable insert may be disposed between the plateable regions to prevent migration of plating material from one of the plateable regions onto the other one of the plateable regions. A conducive robber in electrical communication with one of the one of the plateable regions, and which may be removable, may also be used to prevent migration of plating material.
