Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes a bottomed box-shaped oil pan in which oil is stored. In addition, the internal combustion engine includes an oil pump configured to suck the oil in the oil pan and pressure-feed the oil to each part of the internal combustion engine. A suction pipe extends toward a bottom surface of the oil pan from the oil pump. A strainer is attached to a tip end of the suction pipe. A projection portion protrudes from a bottom surface which is one of inner wall surfaces defining an oil storing space inside the oil pan. The resonance frequency of the projection portion falls in the range of frequency of vibration that is generated at an engine rotational speed at which the internal combustion engine continues to operate independently.

In some examples, a vehicle response includes reducing ambient noise emitted by the purge pump.

Abstract: An in-vehicle controller prohibits engagement of a lock-up clutch when a temperature of a fluid that actuates the lock-up clutch is lower than a prescribed temperature. In addition, the in-vehicle controller stops fuel injection by a fuel injection valve when fuel cut conditions including such a condition that the lock-up clutch is engaged are established. Under a situation where the temperature of the fluid is lower than the prescribed temperature, in the case where a PM accumulation amount on a filter is equal to or larger than an accumulation amount threshold, the in-vehicle controller executes speed increase processing so as to execute gear shift control of a continuously variable transmission such that a rotational speed of a turbine impeller in a torque converter is increased to be higher than that in a case where the PM accumulation amount is smaller than the accumulation amount threshold.

Abstract: A vehicle system includes an engine defining a plurality of cylinders and configured to combust a fuel. A method of increasing efficiency of an engine includes controlling an amount of fuel being injected into the plurality of cylinders of the engine via a respective fuel injector. An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system is in selective fluid communication with a second subset of the plurality of cylinders and the air intake system to route the second exhaust product from the second subset of the plurality of cylinders to an air intake system. A valve is coupled to the EGR system and the exhaust system. A first sensor is disposed between the valve and the air intake system, and measures an amount of reformate in the second exhaust product when the valve is in a second position.
