Publication number: 20200206719Abstract: A core-shell type amine-based carbon dioxide adsorbent is described, including a chelating agent resistant to oxygen and sulfur dioxide, to inhibit oxidative decomposition of amine. As a core, a porous support is employed on which an amine compound is immobilized, and, as a shell, an amine layer resistant to inactivity by sulfur dioxide is utilized. Such adsorbent exhibits high oxidation resistance because the chelating agent functions to remove a variety of transition metal impurities catalytically acting on amine oxidation. In addition, the sulfur dioxide-resistant amine layer of the shell selectively adsorbs sulfur dioxide to protect the amine compound of the core and, at the same time, the amine compound of the core selectively adsorbs only carbon dioxide. Sulfur dioxide adsorbed on the shell is readily desorbable therefrom at about 110° C. and thus remarkably improved regeneration stability is obtained during temperature-swing adsorption (TSA) processes in which sulfur dioxide is present.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 6, 2020Publication date: July 2, 2020Inventors: Minkee CHOI, Woosung CHOI, Chaehoon KIM

Publication number: 20200206728Abstract: Provided is a method of designing a low-pressure chamber that provides a preset air pressure corresponding to a predetermined altitude. The method may include the steps of: calculating a predetermined error range of the preset air pressure, and calculating an amount and types of materials of a getter to be inserted into the low-pressure chamber based on the error range and a total volume of the low-pressure chamber.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 10, 2020Publication date: July 2, 2020Applicant: Korea Aerospace Research InstituteInventors: Hyok Jin CHO, Hee Jun SEO, Sung Wook PARK, Guee Won MOON

Publication number: 20200206729Abstract: A container for transport of biological samples, food or beverages under controlled temperature, or other perishable goods includes a housing compartment for the goods, which is delimited by one or more side walls and has at least one opening. At least one intermediate wall is provided inside the housing compartment and is adapted to divide the housing compartment into at least two sections. The intermediate wall has at least one vent pipe element that includes an upper opening connected to a lower opening through a duct, such that the lower opening communicates with one section and the upper opening communicates with the other section of the housing compartment. The vent pipe element also includes a fan adapted to create a forced-air flow from the upper opening to the lower opening and vice versa, so that the forced-air flow provides constant temperatures for the goods during transport.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 20, 2018Publication date: July 2, 2020Inventors: Roberto Boraso, Luca Boraso, Claudio Grisoni, Antonio Leonforte

Publication number: 20200206730Abstract: Separation of materials is achieved using affinity binding and acoustophoretic techniques. A column provided with a fluid mixture of materials for separation and support structures may be used with acoustic waves to block flow of the support structures. The support structures can have an affinity for one or more materials in the fluid mixture. By blocking flow of the support structures, materials bound or adhered to the support structure are also blocked.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 30, 2019Publication date: July 2, 2020Inventors: Rui Tostoes, Bart Lipkens, Kedar C. Publication number: 20200206731Abstract: The invention discloses a quasi-volumetric sensing system and method. Plural short-range order (SRO) units are configured on the carrier of a quasi-volumetric device, and arranged as an array, i.e. a long-range order (LRO) unit. Protrusions, configured on the SRO units, can modify the wettability of the carrier to control the liquid volume retained thereon so that the precise volume of the liquid sample or droplets are calculated. Based on the applied force on the LRO unit and the gradient of hydrophilicity-hydrophobicity on the surface, the redundant volume of the liquid sample is removed. Macromolecules, e.g. antibodies, complements, receptor proteins, aptamers, oligosaccharides or oligonucleotides, configured on the protrusions are coupled to specific molecules in the liquid sample or droplets so as to determine characteristics of the specific molecules. Therefore, the open chip device of the invention can be used to achieve the quasi-volumetric measurement and the analysis of specific molecules.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 2, 2019Publication date: July 2, 2020Inventors: Szu-Heng Liu, Yi-Qi Huang, Yu-Tung Huang

Publication number: 20200206732Abstract: A collection and test apparatus is provided that comprises a collection wand, a tubular test housing and an annular seal member. The collection wand has a cylindrical stem and a collection tip. The collection tip has a cylindrical sample capture portion having one or more specimen capture grooves each having a groove volume and collectively providing a specimen capture volume. The annular seal member has a seal aperture sized to allow passage of the cylindrical sample capture portion of the collection tip. The seal member is fixedly positioned within the tubular housing transverse to its longitudinal axis and divides the housing into a proximal housing space and a distal housing space comprising a test chamber sized to receive an amount of reagent liquid. The collection wand is positionable in a test configuration where the collection tip is disposed within the test chamber and the stem extends through the aperture seal.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 31, 2018Publication date: July 2, 2020Inventor: Bethany Henrick
