Abstract: A method of smart cattle reproduction management and digital farm to market transparency metrics tracks, monitors, and predicts reproductive efficiency, providing actionable information that allows the cattle rancher to optimize operations to ensure a high calf crop percentage. Using conventional ear tags to track and monitor the location, temperature, and movement of each animal in the herd, a highly accurate and data-driven reproductive performance score may be calculated for open heifers, cows, and bulls, thereby allowing actions to be taken to enhance reproductive efficiency. In addition, given the high risk of losing a heifer during calving, a method provides a means to detect, in advance and remotely, when a pregnant heifer is about to start calving to allow the cattle rancher to go on site, locate the animal, and provide any veterinary assistance that may be required should the delivery be difficult.

Abstract: A buckle assembly includes a housing enclosing a locking bar for securing a latch. The latch is inserted into a latch cavity of the buckle assembly, pushing the spring-loaded locking bar into the housing until a convex feature of the latch passes a convex feature of the latch cavity, and slides to the side, whereupon the locking bar is extended by a compression spring, thereby locking the latch from release from the buckle assembly. The latch is released from the latch cavity by pulling a release cord or cable or trigger attached to the locking bar to overcome the spring tension and draw the locking bar up, thus allowing the latch to move away from the convex feature of the latch cavity and release from the buckle assembly.

Abstract: Provided are a psoriasis-induced transgenic animal model overexpressing the Pellino homolog 1 (Peli1) gene according to doxycycline administration, and a use thereof. The transgenic animal model of the present disclosure exhibited similarity to phenotypes shown in patients with psoriasis, due to overexpression of the Pellino homolog 1 (Peli1) gene according to doxycycline administration. It is anticipated that the transgenic animal model may be usefully used in clinical studies, such as screening for a candidate drug for the treatment of psoriasis. Additionally, it is anticipated that a peptide derived from the Peli1 FHA domain targeting the FHA binding motif that inhibits normal substrate binding between a substrate protein and the Peli1 protein may be usefully used in the development of new drugs for psoriasis-associated diseases. Moreover, by confirming an expression level of the Peli1 protein, it is anticipated to be usefully used in evaluating the severity of patients with psoriasis.

Abstract: A method and system for eradicating insects in palm trees (such as arecaceae) by means of a lower stem encasement embedded with fumigant. Said encasement comprised of a plastic, polymer sheet with internal, flexible foam lining. The lining having a plurality of apertures configured to receive a multitude of fumigants (such as aluminum phosphide tablets) therein. The invention being wrapped around the perimeter of the aforementioned palm tree and selectively affixed by means of adhesive strips and adjustable strapping on distal ends. While it is well-known that such insects respond well to fumigants, it is difficult to make contact with them in the center of a tree. An object of the invention is to impregnate an Arecacae tree with fumigants by means of a non-invasive fumigant wrap system.

Abstract: Certain example embodiments relate to making use of the difference in visually perceivable spectra as between humans and birds to create at least pseudo-random and generally non-repeating patterns that help deter birds from colliding with building facades and other transparent barriers, techniques for creating such patterns, articles including such patterns, and methods of making such articles. The patterns include design elements or areas of a UV-reflective material that is visible to birds and may or may not be easily perceivable to humans. The patterns may be created in accordance with a plurality of design rules embodied in a computer-implemented algorithm. Design rules relate to position, rotation, and/or size randomness of the design elements included in the pattern. Execution of the algorithm defines the pattern. Once the pattern is defined, the transparent substrate can have the pattern applied thereto via any suitable manufacturing technique.
