Abstract: Physiological signals produced at a wearable device are compressed and mapped to detect a health condition of a user of the wearable device. Physiological signal data indicating a physical quality of the user of the wearable device is produced based on noisy data recorded using sensors of the wearable device. The physiological signal data is compressed at the wearable device using a dictionary defined at a server device. The server device receives and decompresses the compressed physiological signal data to produce denoised physiological signal data indicating the physical quality of the user of the wearable device. A change in a physiological state of the user of the wearable device is determined using the denoised physiological signal data and historical physiological data of the user of the wearable device. The health condition is detected based on the change in the physiological state of the user of the wearable device.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system and method for predicting drowsiness of a subject. During facial landmark tracking of a received stream of images, feature extraction is split into two components, viz., landmark independent and landmark dependant features. Precomputing the landmark independent features during a first stage of a first cascade reduces the computational requirements of the approach without affecting accuracy of detection of landmark features. A second multi-stage cascade is used to distinguish and extract eye images from the facial landmarks. At the end of the second multi-stage cascade, the eye landmarks are again distinguished between open eyes and closed eyes using a third multi-stage cascade. Progressively, the subsequent stages of the third multi-stage cascade discards open eyes, and eventually detects closed eyes accurately. The occurrence of closed eye images and eye height variations in the received stream of images can enable determination of drowsiness of the subject.

Abstract: Ultrasound image devices, systems, and methods are provided. In one embodiment, an ultrasound imaging system includes an ultrasound imaging probe configured to acquire image data associated with an object at an acquisition data rate; and a communication interface in communication with the ultrasound imaging probe and configured to transmit a first subset of the image data in real time based on the acquisition data rate; and transmit a second subset of the image data at a delayed time. In one embodiment, a method of ultrasound imaging includes acquiring, by an ultrasound imaging probe, image data associated with an object at an acquisition data rate; transmitting, to a host via a communication link, a first subset of the image data in real time based on the acquisition data rate; and transmitting, to the host via the communication link, a second subset of the image data at a delayed time.

Abstract: A scan head is described which permits movement of a scanning element such as a transducer or transducer array within the head. A position sensor is employed such as an inductive position sensor. Various embodiments allow for low-volume low-cost scan heads that can be used in applications such as medical imaging, industrial applications or other uses, and may be employed with ultrasound imaging transducers, arrays or other types of elements integrated into said scan head. Movement of the transducers or other elements in the scan head permit a wider operational field including to sweep a larger imaging region and/or to extend the effective operation of the unit into greater dimensions along one or more degrees of freedom.

Abstract: Methods for contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging that implement coded multi-pulses in each of two or more different transmission events are described. Data acquired in response to the two different transmission events are decoded and combined. In some embodiments, the coded multi-pulses include two or more consecutive Hadamard encoded ultrasound pulses. In other embodiments, multiplane wave pulses can be used. Such multiplane wave pulses can be coded using Hadamard encoding, as one example. In addition, the multiplane wave pulses can be further coded using amplitude modulation, pulse inversion, or pulse inversion amplitude modulation techniques.

Abstract: A method of processing cardiac ultrasound data for determining information about a mechanical wave in the heart. The method comprises receiving data representative of a time series of three-dimensional data frames, generated from ultrasound signals from a human or animal heart, each frame comprising a set of voxels, each voxel value representing an acceleration component of a respective location in the heart at a common time. The method also comprises identifying, for each voxel, a frame of the series in which the voxel value is at a maximum. A three-dimensional time-propagation data set is generated by assigning each voxel a value representative of the time of the respective frame in the time series for which the corresponding voxel is at a maximum. The method then comprises generating data representative of a three-dimensional velocity vector field by calculating time derivatives from the three-dimensional time-propagation data set.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus (10) apparatus for the detection of carbon dioxide. It is described to place (210) a part of a housing in contact with a skin area of a patient. the part of the housing and a gas measuring chamber within the housing are configured such that gases diffusing through the skin area of the patient enter the gas measuring chamber. radiation is emitted (220) from a radiation source within the housing, wherein at least some of the radiation emitted by the radiation source enters the gas measuring chamber. The radiation entering the gas measuring chamber has wavelengths that extend over an absorption band of carbon dioxide and has wavelengths that extend over a region other than the absorption band of carbon dioxide. A radiation filter is positioned (230) relative to the gas measuring chamber such that an interaction radiation path is defined between the radiation source through the gas measuring chamber to the radiation filter.

Abstract: A biological sample collection system can include a sample collection vessel having a closed first end and an open second for receiving a biological sample. The system can additionally include a sealing cap configured to associate with the sample collection vessel, a reagent chamber secured within an interior space of the sealing cap and retaining a measure of sample preservation solution, a shim circumferentially associated with a proximal end of the reagent chamber and spanning the distance between the reagent chamber and the interior sidewall of the sealing cap, and a plug having a diaphragm configured to selectively engage the shim and form a seal for retaining the sample preservation solution within the reagent chamber. Associating the sealing cap with the sample collection vessel displaces the diaphragm from the shim and breaks the seal formed therebetween, opening a fluid path between the reagent chamber and the sample collection chamber.

The core collector is withdrawn proximally to its initial position in the cartridge and the cartridge is removed from the handle. The cartridge, with the core collector and the tissue sample therein is treated as needed for sending as a unit to a laboratory, thus preserving the orientation and completeness of the tissue sample therein.
