Abstract: A method and (portable) device are provided for quantifying liver steatosis. The quantitative assessment of liver steatosis predicts whether a liver from the liver transplant donor is suitable for transplantation. Specifically, the quantitative assessment of liver steatosis predicts an associated risk for early allograft dysfunction. A biopsy image from a liver transplant donor is obtained from an automatic quantitative assessment of liver steatosis is made using a pre-trained artificial intelligence algorithm for identifying parameters of liver steatosis. The biopsy image is input to the pre-trained artificial intelligence algorithm. The quantitative assessment of liver steatosis is the output of the pre-trained artificial intelligence algorithm. Embodiments provide for rapidly diagnosing potential donor liver allografts at the time of procurement with a point-of-care device deployed with the transplant surgery team.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a two-layer adhesive and methods of using the same to secure an electronic device to an organism. In a non-limiting embodiment of the invention, a surface of the organism is coated with a first adhesive layer (bottom layer). The first adhesive layer is cured and a surface of the cured first adhesive layer is coated with a second adhesive layer (top layer). An electronic device is positioned on the second adhesive layer prior to curing the second adhesive layer. The second adhesive layer is then cured, thereby embedding the electronic device within the second adhesive layer. The bottom layer and the top layer are selected such that the bottom layer releases upon exposure to a first solvent after a first duration and the top layer releases upon exposure to a second solvent after a second duration more than the first duration.

In various embodiments, count measurements may be obtained at two different X-ray tube currents, from which the detector system deadtime may be calculated based on the two count measurements and a ratio of the two X-ray tube currents. Using the calculated deadtime, a pileup correction factor may be determined appropriate for the behavior of the detector system in response to pileup events. Abstract: A method of engaging a medical instrument with a medical instrument manipulator comprises receiving an indication that a first input coupling of the medical instrument is positioned adjacent to a first drive output of the manipulator. The first drive output is driven by a first actuating element. In response to receiving the indication, the first drive output is rotated in a first rotational direction. A determination is made, by one or more processors, as to whether a resistance torque is experienced by the first actuating element after rotating the first drive output in the first rotational direction. If the resistance torque is not experienced by the first actuating element after rotating of the first drive output in the first rotational direction, the first drive output is rotated in a second rotational direction.

Abstract: A medical device and method for closure of a puncture in a body lumen are disclosed. The device has an aggregate (10) of a support structure (20) and a substantially fluid tight patch member (30) attached thereto at an attachment unit (40). The aggregate has a first, temporary delivery shape, for delivery to an interior of said body lumen and to be subsequently subjected to a change of shape to a second shape, which is a tubular shape. When delivered in said body lumen, the patch member is arranged radially outside of said tubular support structure and arranged towards an inner tissue wall of the body lumen. The aggregate is the detached from a delivery device and said puncture is intraluminally closed in a leakage tight manner, advantageously supported by a physiological pressure of a body fluid in said body lumen. Rotational orientation is detectable by fiducial markers.

Abstract: A surgical stabilizer arm ends with a hybrid quick connect mechanism capable of holding tissue manipulator tools of either the ball type or the shaft type. The single integrated mechanism allows users to choose the type of attachment mechanism they prefer on a case-by-case basis. The mechanism has a spring-loaded sleeve that can be pulled back to enable an attachment (manipulator tool) to be inserted. A ball-style attachment is inserted through an opening in a grip cage, and a shaft-style attachment is inserted into an actuator (e.g., spring detent) through the claws of the grip cage. When the sleeve is released, a compression spring pushed the actuator forward, either pressing the ball attachment against the grip cage or pressing the spring detent against the shaft attachment to partially lock the attachment in place. Tightening a tension cable increases the pressure to fully lock the attachment in place.
