    Abstract: Systems for enabling delivery of very high peak power laser pulses through optical fibers for use in ablation procedures preferably in contact mode. Such lasers advantageously emit at 355 nm wavelength. Other systems enable selective removal of undesired tissue within a blood vessel, while minimizing the risk of damaging the blood vessel itself, based on the use of the ablative properties of short laser pulses of 320 to 400 nm laser wavelength, with selected parameters of the mechanical walls of the tubes constituting the catheter, of the laser fluence and of the force that is applied by the catheter on the tissues. Additionally, a novel method of calibrating such catheters is disclosed, which also enables real time monitoring of the ablation process. Additionally, novel methods of protecting the fibers exit facets are disclosed.

    Abstract: A process for confirming registration of bones involved in a joint replacement procedure is provided that includes a three dimensional (3-D) models of the bones being generated. The bones are tracked with a tracking device attached to each of the bones to allow 6-degrees of freedom (DOF) tracking during the joint replacement procedure. The 3-D models to the bones are registered and the bones having the tracking device are moved. A corresponding motion in the 3-D models with the moving of the bones is then observed. The registration of the 3-D models to the bone when the observations of the 3-D models move in correspondence with the actual bones is then confirmed or an alarm when an algorithm detects the 3-D bone models move unexpectedly during the movement of the bones. A system for confirming registration of bones involved in the joint replacement procedure is also provided.

    Abstract: A 2D image-guided surgical robot system for drilling operations includes surgical image acquisition equipment, robot positioning and drilling equipment, and a remote operation workstation. To perform a drilling operation, images of the surgery area are acquired with the image acquisition equipment and are registered to the robot, and a distortion correction is performed. A drilling path is assigned by a doctor through the GUI of the remote operation workstation, and the remote operation workstation calculates the robot motion quantity using a position-based method and moves the robot accordingly. Based on the relative position of the surgical tool and drilling path in the images, the remote operation workstation calculates a motion quantity using image feedback and controls the robot to make further fine adjustments to the drilling path. The robot then performs the drilling operation with an electric drill or holds a drill guide for doctors to perform the drilling manually.

    Abstract: An orthodontic dentistry for use in holistic treatment of patients with anomalies of the dentoalveolar system using orthodontic micro-implant. The source data includes a computer tomogram, cast teeth models, jaw model, and size of the micro-implants to be installed. Using cast teeth models, plaster dental models are casted and scanned to obtain a 3D printed model of the patient's jaw. Then, the computer tomogram and 3D model of the patient's jaw are combined. Based on the anatomy and shape of the palatal mucosa, the entry points of the micro-implants into the mucosa is selected on a 3D model of the patient's jaw. The position of the micro-implants at these selected points is plotted, taking into account their inclination and depth of insertion. The correctness of the selected position of the micro-implants is checked using the computer tomogram. By the data obtained, a caliper is modeled for inserting micro-implants for the subsequent installation of an orthodontic apparatus.
