Abstract: A method of predicting physiological alarm frequency by patient monitors includes collecting patient monitoring data of multiple patients in at least a first healthcare environment, and then determining an alarm rate model based on the patient monitoring data, wherein the alarm rate model describes alarm rates at a range of alarm configurations in the first healthcare environment. Initial alarm rate data is collected for a second healthcare environment, wherein the initial alarm rate data includes at least one alarm rate at at least one known alarm configuration within the range of alarm configurations. An alarm rate transform is then calculated for the second healthcare environment comparing the initial alarm rate data for the second healthcare environment to the alarm rate model.

Abstract: In an organ of interest in a patient is emplaced a set of sensors designed to monitor parameters of the organ of interest, including at least nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide level and at least one parameter from among the group consisting of tissue blood flow, blood hemoglobin, and tissue reflectance. Substantially continuously, a vitality index of the organ of interest is computed based at least in part on the parameters monitored by the sensors at the organ of interest. Another point of the patient is monitored continuously for a systemic reference, NADH level and at least two parameters from among the group consisting of blood flow (BFS), blood hemoglobin, and tissue reflectance. Substantially continuously, a systemic vitality index is computed from the measured systemic parameters. The vitality index of the organ of interest and systemic vitality index are monitored for a divergence in the temporal trend.

Abstract: A user, such as an elderly person, may be assisted by an assistance device in his or her caregiving environment that operates in conjunction with one or more server computers. The assistance device may execute a schedule of assistance actions where each assistance action is associated with a time and is executed at that time to assist the user. An assistance action may present an input request to a user, process a voice input of the user, and analyze the voice input to determine that the voice input corresponds to a negative response event, a positive response event, or a non-response event. Based on the categorization of one or more voice inputs as negative response events, positive response events, or non-response events, it may be determined to notify a caregiver of the user, for example where the user has not responded to a number of assistance actions.

Abstract: System and methods for controlling healthcare devices and systems using voice commands are presented. In some aspects a listening device may receive voice command from a person. The voice command may be translated into human readable or machine readable text via a speech-to-text service. A control component may receive the text and send device-specific instructions to a medical device associated with a patient based on the translated voice command. In response to the instructions, the medical device may take an action on a patient. Some examples of actions taken may include setting an alarm limit on a monitor actively monitoring a patient and adjusting the amount of medication delivered by an infusion pump. Because these devices may be controlled using a voice command, in some cases, no physical or manual interaction is needed with the device. As such, multiple devices may be hands-free controlled from any location.

Abstract: Mechanical image acquisition systems (such as medical C-arms) frequently accumulate geometrical errors which must be calibrated out using a calibration phantom. A more frequent regime of system calibration implies a less frequent use of the C-arm for clinical applications. The present application proposes to identify common biases between the acquired projection frame sequences from the same mechanical image acquisition system in first and second acquisitions, and to compare this to expected calibration data of the mechanical image acquisition system to generate frame deviation measures. If a resemblance between the first and second sequences of frame deviation measures is obtained, one or more calibration actions are performed (such as alerting the user that calibration should be provided, and/or automatically correcting for the geometry deviation).

Firstly using the osteotomy calibration device to obtain the calculated position information of the current osteotomy plane, and then determining a position error between the calculated position information and a predetermined position information of a planned osteotomy plane, and if the position error exceeds a preset value, calculating and transmitting a relocation information to a robotic arm to control and relocate the robotic arm. By comparing and identifying the position error between the current osteotomy plane formed by the first osteotomy and the planned predetermined osteotomy plane, relocating the robotic arm, and performing a secondary correction of the osteotomy plane. In addition, by relocating the robotic arm and secondary correction of the osteotomy plane, additional bone nails which is to fix the navigation tool to the bone can be avoided.

Abstract: A retractor of a robotic and/or laparoscopic surgery system is provided. The retractor may support in a generally uniformly distributed manner weight and/or massing of retracted internal patient tissue. The retractor typically comprises an arm extendable from the system terminating in a pair of graspers, and a weight distributing means located between the pair of graspers for distributing weight of retracted tissue, so as to avoid injury to the retracted tissue during deployment of the retractor. The graspers may have open and closed positions. The weight distributing means may comprise, e.g., a netting or a fabric, having a tautness effective to effect grasping and/or retraction action during deployment of the retractor. For example, the weight distributing means may in the alternative comprise a fan mechanism that optionally includes the pair of graspers. One or more surgical procedures may be performed using that retractor in a robotic and/or laparoscopic technique.
