Abstract: Various catheters with expandable and contractible fluid pathways extending therethrough, and methods of use, are provided herein. In an exemplary embodiment, a catheter is provided with an elongate body having an electrode at the distal end thereof. One or more expandable members or wings can extend between the electrode and the distal end of the elongate body. The catheter can also include an actuator extending therethrough and coupled to the electrode such that movement of the actuator is effective to advance and retract the electrode, thereby moving the one or more expandable members between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration. The catheter can also include a fluid sealed lumen formed therein and configured to receive fluid and to deliver fluid to one or more pathways formed in the electrode. The actuator can extend through the fluid sealed lumen, however it can be fluidly separated from the lumen.

  • Patent number: 11103312
Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide various examples of predicting potential current paths from an active electrode of a monopolar electrosurgery tool to a return electrode of the monopolar electrosurgery tool based on analyzing electrical properties of tissues inside a patient's body, and evaluating and eliminating tissue burn risks associated with the predicted current paths. In some embodiments, a current-path-prediction technique is used to predict a set of potential current paths from the active electrode to the return electrode for any given geometrical configuration of the two electrodes on the patient's body. These predicted current paths can then be pictorially displayed on a 3D scan of the patient's body or an endoscopic view of the patient's body and in relation to the display of any existing metal implant inside the patient's body, which allows for visualizing points of tissue burn risks inside the patient's body.

  • Patent number: 11103313
Abstract: The present invention relates to a redundant reciprocal tracking system composed of at least two trackers 10. A first tracker is able to sense partial or full pose data (orientation and position) of a second tracker in a first reference frame and the second tracker is able to sense partial or full pose data of the first tracker in a second reference frame. Pose data of first and second trackers are further transferred to a central processor 30, which is able to compute the transformation between first and second reference frame. Data generated by the trackers are such designed that they define an over-determined mathematical system (e.g. more than 6 degrees of freedom in a 3D setup). The over-determined information can be used to qualify and/or improve the transformation of the reference frame. In an embodiment of the invention, the tracking system is an optical one and the over-determined information defines an error metric used to check the validity of the transformation.

  • Patent number: 11103340
Abstract: Bio-selective textured surfaces are described which mediate foreign body response, bacterial adhesion, and tissue adhesion on devices implanted in a mammalian body. Hierarchical levels of texture, some capable of establishing a Wenzel state others a Cassie state, are employed to interface with living structures, either to promote or discourage a particular biological response/interaction. Since a gaseous state is traditionally required to establish a Cassie or Wenzel state, and gases do not remain long in living tissue, described are tissue/device interactions analogous to the above states with the component normally represented by a gas replaced by a bodily constituent, wherein separation of tissue constituents develops and a desired interaction state evolves.

Abstract: Embodiments of a radially collapsible and expandable prosthetic heart valve are disclosed. The prosthetic valve can comprise an annular frame, leaflets, an inner skirt, and an outer skirt. The outer skirt can be secured to the outside of the inflow end portion of the frame, the outer skirt having longitudinal slack that buckles outward radially when the valve is in the expanded configuration and which lies flat when the valve is in the collapsed configuration. In some embodiments, the outer skirt is stiffer in the axial direction of the valve than in the circumferential direction of the valve. In additional embodiments, the outer skirt comprises a self-expandable fabric comprising fibers made of a shape memory material having a shape memory set to enhance the radially outward buckling of the outer skirt. Methods of crimping such valves to a collapsed or partially collapsed configuration are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 11103347
Abstract: Disclosed herein are representative embodiments of methods, apparatus, and systems used to deliver a prosthetic heart valve to a deficient valve. In one embodiment, for instance, a support member is positioned to at least partially surround the native chordae tendineae and/or leaflets of a valve. The support member can comprise a flexible, distensible material to reduce abrasion and other mechanical damage to surrounding structures. A locking member may be used to couple both ends of the support member, forming a support ring. The support member may have two magnetic end portions which can be magnetically coupled to form a support ring. An expandable prosthetic heart valve can be delivered into the native heart valve and expanded within the support band, thereby causing one or more of the native chordae tendineae and/or leaflets of the native heart valve to be frictionally secured between the support ring and the expanded prosthetic heart valve.
