Abstract: A lead-implantation tool for implanting a lead into a patient includes an elongated body having a distal portion with a tip configured to separate patient tissue to form, or extend through, a tunnel in the tissue when the body is advanced along the tissue. A lead-retention element is formed along the distal portion of the body and includes a cutout defined along the body with a cutout surface wall inset from the body's outer surface. A protrusion extends outwardly from the cutout surface wall with at least a portion of the protrusion extending towards the tip. The protrusion is entirely inset from, or flush with, the body's outer surface. The protrusion is configured to removably receive and retain a portion of the lead while the distal portion of the body is advanced along the tissue and to separate from the lead as the body is withdrawn from the tissue.

  • Patent number: 11357546
Abstract: Survival of patients suffering from many infections diarrheal diseases, including Ebola, as well as trauma and post-partum hemorrhage is improved with large-volume, parenteral, fluid replacement. In lieu of IVs, Intra-Osseous (IO) lines are placed with the help of a Humerus-Finder™, a one-piece guide that identifies the humeral head at the shoulder and allows for easy, safe, placement of an IO line. This guide enables healthcare providers and lay-providers to place IO lines and deliver fluids to infected persons without direct contact, limiting risk to providers. The Humerus-Finder™ makes early, potentially life-saving, supportive treatment available where large-volume fluid infusion can save lives and is useful in disaster medicine and emergency medicine when it is not possible to place an IV line rapidly and safely by helping first responders achieve IO access for delivery of fluid resuscitation in a safe, reliable manner.

Abstract: According to some embodiments, systems and methods for reshaping bone are provided. The systems may include an implant body, an actuator coupled to the implant body, a sensor configured to detect a parameter indicative of a biological condition, a transceiver, and a controller. The transceiver may be configured to transmit data associated with the parameter to an external remote control and receive instructions from the external remote control. Finally, the controller is configured to move the actuator in response to the instructions from the external remote control, wherein the actuator adjusts the implant body. The methods may include measuring a parameter indicative of a biological condition; transmitting data associated with the parameter from the implantable device to an external remote control; transmitting instructions from the external remote control to the implantable device; and actuating the bone growth device in response to the instructions from the external remote control.

  • Patent number: 11357549
Abstract: Correction of a scoliotic curve in a spine comprises the steps of implanting an expanding rod isolated completely under the skin and attached to selected portions of the scoliotic curve of the spine at opposing ends of the rod; and producing a controlled force by means of expansion of the rod over at an extended time period under external control until a desire spinal curve is obtained. An incremental force is generated to stretch the scoliotic curve of the spine between the selected portions where attachment of the rod is defined. The controlled force is provided steadily for at least one month or alternatively 1-3 months. Multiple rods may be employed each associated with a different scoliotic curve of the spine or a different portion of the scoliotic curve.

  • Patent number: 11357550
Abstract: The present disclosure includes a polyaxial bone fixation element for use in spinal fixation to interconnect a longitudinal spinal rod with a patient's vertebra. The polyaxial bone fixation element preferably includes a bone anchor, a collet, a body, and a locking cap. The polyaxial bone fixation element preferably enables in-situ assembly. That is, the polyaxial bone fixation element is preferably configured so that in use, the bone anchor may be secured to the patient's vertebra prior to being received within the body. Accordingly, the polyaxial bone fixation element enables a surgeon to implant the bone anchor without the body to maximize visibility and access around the anchoring site. Once the bone anchor has been secured to the patient's vertebra, the body can be snapped-onto the bone anchor. The bone anchor preferably also includes a second tool interface so that a surgical instrument can be directly coupled to the bone anchor.
