Patent number: 11597026Abstract: Systems and methods for welding are described. The welding system can include, for example, a welding power source, a welding torch, and a computer. The computer and the welding torch can be operatively coupled to the power source. A first weld is performed and its signature is saved by the computer. It is considered a high quality weld and is selected as a weld reference. A second weld is performed and its signature is saved by the computer. The computer then computes a single weld confidence result for the second weld based on a comparison between the signature data of the second weld and the signature data of the reference weld. A weld fault condition is triggered based on the single weld confidence result which causes the welding system to stop or to modify the welding operation, and/or which causes the welding system to send out communications relating to the triggering of the weld fault condition.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2020Date of Patent: March 7, 2023Assignee: ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS INC.Inventors: Leland D. Patent number: 11597027Abstract: Some examples of the present disclosure relate to welding torches having a thermal insulating plate (400). The thermal insulating plate is comprised of a thermally insulating material, and is positioned between a front housing (302) and a drive gearbox (324) of the welding torch. The front housing (302) is connected to a gooseneck that conducts electrical energy to a torch tip (i.e. front end) of the welding torch. The drive gearbox (324) includes a gear assembly configured to drive a drive roll that moves a wire electrode through the welding torch (e.g. toward the torch tip of the torch). The thermal insulating plate (400) acts as a heat dam to decrease and/or reduce thermal energy transfer from the torch tip of the welding torch (e.g. via the front housing) towards the rear of the welding torch (e.g. through the drive gearbox), where the thermal energy may heat the welding torch handle and/or damage some of the more expensive and/or sensitive components in the handle (e.g. a motor of the drive gearbox).Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2018Date of Patent: March 7, 2023Assignee: ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS INC.Inventor: Craig Matthew Bondy

Patent number: 11597035Abstract: Laser ablation processing method for debris-free and efficient removal of materials comprises the step of using a refrigeration device to condense the water vapor and form a thin frost layer on the materials at temperatures below the freezing point. The residual debris produced during the ablation process deposits on the frost layer that covers the material, which is easily removed when the frost layer melts. At the same time, the frost layer in the laser irradiation area melts to a liquid layer, which can effectively reduce the deposition of debris on the inner wall of the groove and thus improve the efficiency and quality of laser ablation. The method is applicable to debris-free laser processing on an arbitrary curved surface.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2020Date of Patent: March 7, 2023Assignee: Shanghai Institute of Optics And Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of SciencesInventors: Yang Liao, Yan Yue, Xuan Wang, Junchi Chen, Yujie Peng, Yuxin Leng

Patent number: 11597065Abstract: Pressure gauges according to this invention provide pressure measurement on all brands of crimping tools, including 6-Ton D3 tools. In particular, this design eliminates the need to remove the tool crimp head to measure the pressure of the crimping tool. Additionally, this design eliminates the need to install additional dedicated fixtures on the crimping tool to measure the ram pressure. This design incorporates a self-centering profile to avoid side-loading when mounting the pressure gauge in the crimping tool. The dial indicator on pressure gauges of this invention captures and holds the maximum pressure reading with the use of a simple manual lever. The lever can be easily reset for the next pressure reading. Pressure gauges according to various embodiments of this invention include dual piston pressure sensors. Additionally, pressure measurement is accomplished with a simple hydro mechanical manometer display.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2020Date of Patent: March 7, 2023Assignee: Ilsco, LLCInventors: James Bider, William Mitchell, Bill Wolins
