Abstract: A tilling apparatus (10) has a head part (12), a blade arrangement (14), a motor (16) with a motion mechanism (64) housed within a housing (60) and an elongate handle (26). The blade arrangement (14) has a first blade (18?) and a second blade (18?) configured for reciprocating back-and-forth, up-and-down motion. The handle (26) has a tube portion (32) and a holding portion (28). A user holds the handle portion (28) and positions the blade arrangement (14) at a location within an area of the ground to be tilled. The user rests the weight of the apparatus (10) on the ground through the blade arrangement (14), actuates and moves the apparatus over the area to be tilled. An upward, resultant force from the ground on the blade arrangement (14) and a downward force from the weight of the apparatus allows the user to move the apparatus.

Abstract: System and methods for generating a work plan for a headland of an agricultural field (e.g., the portion of the agricultural field that is used by an agricultural machine to perform edge turns while working a main work partition of the field). A field boundary polygon indicative of a workable area of the agricultural field is segmented into multiple segments including a headland polygon and a work partition polygon. A seed track is generated based on a shape of a portion of the boundary of the headland polygon that is shared in common with the boundary of the field boundary polygon. The work plan is generated by replicating the seed track at a defined spacing throughout the headland polygon. In some implementations, the agricultural machine is operated autonomously or semi-autonomously to work the headland area based on the defined work plan.

Abstract: A method for monitoring autonomous agricultural production machines is disclosed. The autonomous agricultural production machine autonomously performs an agricultural job. When an anomaly occurs, the autonomous agricultural production machine performs a response routine, interrupting the performance of the agricultural job. The autonomous agricultural production machine senses anomaly data during and/or after the response routine and transmits the anomaly data to a remote monitoring center in a reporting routine that a user may access in the remote monitoring center. The remote monitoring center generates, based on the anomaly data, a control instruction and transmits the control instruction to the autonomous agricultural production machine to execute in order to further respond to the anomaly and thereafter continue to perform the agricultural job.

Abstract: A framework for diagnosing and predicting a suitability of soil conditions to various agricultural operations is performed in a combined, multi-part approach for simulating relationships between predictive data and observable outcomes. The framework includes analyzing one or more factors relevant to field trafficability, workability, and suitability for agricultural operations due to the effects of freezing and thawing cycles, and developing artificial intelligence systems to learn relationships between datasets to produce improved indications of trafficability, workability, and forecasts of suitability windows for a particular user, user community, farm, farm group, field, or equipment. The framework also includes a real-time feedback mechanism by which a user can validate or correct these indications and forecasts. The framework may further be configured to override one or more of the soil state assessments to ensure that indicators and forecasts are consistent with the recently-provided feedback.

Abstract: A vertical cultivation system and method. The vertical cultivation system includes a vertical carousel with associated platforms that each hold a plant. The carousel moves the platforms through different levels during the daily growing cycle and the plants receive treatments at each level. The treatments include irrigation, lighting, environmental control, pest management, and deep-water culture. The movement of the carousel (e.g., its speed and rotational positioning) is controlled by a controller that receives input from sensors configured with the plants. The sensors communicate sensed readings (e.g., moister levels) and the controller controls the carousel's movement based on the readings. When at ground level, the plants are held at a level that is ergonomic for pruning and other plant maintenance activities.
