Abstract: Disclosed are embodiments for segmenting an animal feed bunk. The feed bunk is segmented, in some embodiments, into segments that include reachable animal feed, and other segments that include unreachable animal feed. Volume estimates of feed in each of the segments are generated, in some embodiments, via imaging data of the feed bunk captured by a LIDAR sensor or passive optical sensor. The volume estimates trigger alerts in some instances indicating feed shortages or a need for a push up operation to move feed from an unreachable segment to a reachable segment. Demarcation of feeding events, coupled with volume estimations of feed remaining provide for determination of refusal volumes, which are useful in determining animal appetite.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a preferably computer-implemented method of raising a group of monogastric animals Issues such as exposure of the animals to an initiator of a disease are recognized at an early stage by ex vivo analysis of blood samples. Said analysis is done where the animals are raised using point-of-care devices. Accuracy of separation between affected and non-affected animals is increased by measuring a set of pre-determined blood parameters. The landless monogastric animal production system of the invention facilitates implementation of the method of the invention.

Abstract: Compositions and methods are provided for improving a plant's immune response using a combination of microbes and/or their growth by-products. Specifically, the subject invention improves a plant's ability to withstand an infection by a pest or pathogen using a combination of a Trichoderma sp. fungus and a Bacillus sp. bacterium, and, optionally, one or more other microorganisms. In certain embodiments, the compositions and methods of the subject invention can modulate the recognition of PAMPs and/or the induction of defensive mechanisms in a plant. In a specific embodiment, the invention reduces induction of self-harming defensive mechanisms that are irreversible and/or over-induced in the plant.

Abstract: A virulence factor FsPL gene from the sugarcane pokkah boeng disease and use thereof are provided. The virulence factor FsPL gene from the sugarcane pokkah boeng disease has a sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 1. The present invention reveals a gene FsPL that is related to the pathogenicity of F. sacchari. Preliminary analysis shows that the deletion of the gene affects the ability of hyphae to penetrate and further affects the pathogenicity of pathogens. This provides a basis for the molecular mechanism of the pathogen infection and pathogenic process.

Abstract: A system for forming and baking dough has a pallet with a female mold and a ram separate from the pallet. A ribbon of unbaked dough is located between the pallet and the ram. The ram has a male mold that is actuated to contact and stretch the dough into the female mold when the male mold engages with the female mold. A portion of the dough is separated from the ribbon and remains with the pallet as it is baked. An optional weight is mated to the pallet to maintain the position of the stretched dough with the female mold during the baking process.

Abstract: The present invention relates to microbial safety of meat products. In particular new additives are provided for effective reduction of pathogenic bacteria, such as Shiga toxin producing Escherichia coli (STEC), on or in meat products. The present inventors found that a combination of a nonionic surfactant and organic acid is particularly effective in the reduction of these and other pathogenic bacteria in meat products. The addition of a thickening agent was found to further enhance the effectiveness of the compositions in eliminating these pathogenic bacteria. The present invention provides these meat preservation compositions, the methods of treating meat with these compositions, the related uses of these compositions, as well as the meat products accordingly obtained.
