Publication number: 20240149279Abstract: Centrifuge systems including free-flying centrifuges for mass separations in high gravity, microgravity, or zero gravity environments are described. A centrifuge system includes a body and a rotary member. The body includes a first vertical thruster selectively operable to move the body in a first direction parallel to the central axis, and one or more position sensors configured to determine a position of the body within an open space. The rotary member is configured to receive one or more material samples. The rotary member or body includes a first horizontal thruster selectively operable to move the body in a first direction perpendicular to the central axis, and the rotary member includes a rotational thruster selectively operable to rotate the rotary member about the central axis.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2023Publication date: May 9, 2024Inventors: D. Publication number: 20240149280Abstract: An apparatus for separating cell suspension material into centrate and concentrate, includes a single use structure (178, 240, 250) releasably positioned in a cavity in a solid wall rotatable centrifuge bowl (172). The bowl and portions of single use structure rotate about an axis (174). A stationary inlet feed tube (184), a centrate discharge tube (212) and a concentrate discharge tube (230) extend along the axis of the rotating single use structure. A centrate centripetal pump (208) is in fluid connection with the centrate discharge tube. A concentrate centripetal pump (216) is in fluid connection with the concentrate discharge tube. A controller (274) operates responsive to sensors (264, 270) in respective centrate and concentrate discharge lines (262, 268), to control flow rates of a concentrate pump (272) and a centrate pump (266) to produce output flows of cell concentrate and generally cell free centrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 9, 2024Publication date: May 9, 2024Inventors: Stephen B. Publication number: 20240149281Abstract: Apparatus, system, and method for separating gas from a composite fluid. The apparatus includes a main body defining a flow path formed from a separations chamber at an upstream end of the flow path and a head space chamber at the downstream end of the flow path. The main body includes a first set of apertures disposed about the separations chamber and a second set of apertures disposed about the head space chamber. An agitator is housed within the main body at an upstream end of the separations chamber and is configured to generate a vortex that conveys the composite fluid through the flow path. The vortex expels a liquid fraction and a solids fraction of the composite fluid from the first set of apertures, and the vortex conveys a gaseous fraction of the composite fluid into the head space chamber for extraction from the second set of apertures.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 3, 2023Publication date: May 9, 2024Inventors: Isaac David COBB, Gary Lee BUTTREY, George Joel RODGER, Avel Z.
