Abstract: The solar powered water purification device is intended to provide users with an apparatus for the rapid purification of dirty water to drinkable water, using only the power of the sun. To accomplish this, the device uses an insulated tub and a detachable solar panel with an extra sheet of glass to trap heat that can power all the electrical components of the distillation unit as well as heat up the impure water in the insulated tub. The insulated solar panel has a temperature sensitive vent to prevent the panel from overheating if there is no water in the unit. To prevent the unit from collapsing from the vacuum, the unit uses a grill that has many hollow legs that also act like thermal tubes to quickly move the heat from the panels to the dirty water. Thus, the device is an energy efficient and cost-efficient apparatus for water purification.

Abstract: Systems for producing articles from glass tube include a converter having a base with a plurality of processing stations and a turret moveable relative to the base. The turret indexes a plurality of holders for holding the glass tubes successively through the processing stations. The systems further include a gas flow system or a suction system for producing a flow of gas through the glass tube during one or more heating, forming, separating or piercing operations. The flow of gas through the glass tube produced by the gas flow system or suction system may be sufficient to evacuate or purge volatile constituents of the glass from the glass tube and/or pierce a meniscus formed on the glass tube during separation, thereby reducing the Surface Hydrolytic Response (SHR) of the interior surface of the glass tube and articles made therefrom.

  • Patent number: 12139437
Abstract: Off-spec fly ash-based spherical lightweight aggregate (LWA), designated SPoRA, was manufactured and its engineering properties, including specific gravity, dry rodded unit weight, water absorption, mechanical performance, and pore structure, were evaluated. Using the characterized SPoRA, lightweight concrete (LWC) samples were made and properties of the LWC were assessed and compared with samples made using the traditional LWA. The results indicated that fine and coarse SPoRA had 72 h absorption capacities of 16.4% and 20.9%, respectively, which were higher than that of traditional LWA. SPoRA had a saturated surface dry (SSD) specific gravity higher than traditional LWA, which resulted in higher fresh density for the LWC prepared with SPoRA. Large spherical type pores were found for SPoRA similar to the traditional slate-based LWA. The pore size distribution of SPoRA, characterized using a dynamic vapor sorption analyzer, indicated that more than 97% of the pores had pore diameters greater than 50 nm.
