  • Patent number: 11298903
Abstract: A device is described for continuously pressing liquid out of a suspension, in particular a screw press, which may have a rotationally-driven rotor, which may rotate in a tubular screw housing and support a conveyor screw. The screw housing may be at least partially formed as a first filter jacket, which may at least partially interact with the conveyor screw and which may have radial passages for discharging the filtered liquid and which may supply a filter cake, made of retained solids, in the conveyance direction of the conveyor screw to a discharge. To provide advantageous filter conditions, a ring-shaped first sleeve, which coaxially encloses the rotor, for peeling off an outer filter cake layer from the filter cake may be associated with the rotor, downstream from the conveyor screw. A conveyance channel for the remaining inner filter cake layer may be provided between sleeve and rotor.

  • Patent number: 4947743
Abstract: Apparatus for compacting and advancing a mass of particulate or fibrous material to a discharge end of a conduit combines an auger with a reciprocating annular piston. The improvement of the invention is in driving the piston by way of a flywheel equipped crankshaft which also drives a dynamically counter balancing member to reduce vibrations transmitted to the frame of the apparatus. Special hydrostatic guide sleeves are used to guide the reciprocating piston at a high speed. Further improvements include gas and liquid vents and a cooling jacket, both associated with the conduit to increase efficiency of the compacting. A density sensor controlled conical choke member at the discharge end assists in maintaining uniform density of the highly compacted plug of the material. Also, it breaks up the exiting plug to improve subsequent processing of the material.

  • Patent number: 4897194
Abstract: A liquid separator to extract liquid, usually water, from a water-solid mixture. The liquid separator has a housing with an inlet and an outlet separated by a liquid extraction chamber. The housing sidewalls defining the extraction chamber are porous, and are preferably comprised as a plurality of spaced apart rails or slats. The spacing between the rails provides a porosity for extraction of water. The rails are movable inwardly and outwardly relative to the housing in order to vary the volume of the extraction chamber. Bias means are provided that normally bias the rails inwardly of the chamber. A water-solids mixture is pumped through the chamber and tends to expand the chamber against the force of the biasing means. The combination of effects upon the subject mixture is to cause water extraction through both the squeezing by the slats and the friction occassioned by the dewatering of the subject mixture.

  • Patent number: 4779528
Abstract: An apparatus for the compaction and reduction of liquid content in a material includes at least one floating helix (3) rotatable about its axis by drive means (4, 30) and disposed in a casing (2) which, at least along a portion of its extent in the longitudinal direction, completely encloses the helix. In conjunction with the discharge portion of the apparatus, the casing encloses the helix with slight play. Seen in the direction of movement of the material, the discharge portion includes a helix-free region most proximal the discharge opening of the casing, intended for the formation of a counterpressure member which arrests the movement of the material. In this region, the helix is provided with an extension body (100) which reduces the available conveyor surface area. As a rule, the body is a cylindrical hollow body which as a rule is provided with drainage apertures.

Abstract: The apparatus comprises a plurality of stages having screw presses, the material passing out from the outlet side of the stages being passed by a transfer duct to the inlet side of the following stage. Each stage has a speed adjustable independently of the speed of the other stages. Compared with known screw presses, the advantage exists that following each treatment in a stage, by means of an opening in the transfer duct, the material can be measured, checked or subjected to an additional treatment. The number of stages can also be adapted to the material being processed and there is also a relatively large freedom with regards to the arrangement of the apparatus.

The end-wall section includes a plurality of flaps located as an extension of the feed screw, the flaps being yieldably arranged to adjust the size of the outlet aperture. The end of each flap nearest the axis (9) of the feed screw (1) is pivotally mounted on an attachment connection (11), and the attachment connection (11) is arranged for movement along the axis of the feed screw (1). The flaps (7) are arranged to be pressed outwards under the influence of a first force generating arrangement (15,17,18) to form a larger angle with the screw axis (9), thereby causing the outlet aperture to decrease in size.

  • Patent number: 4581992
Abstract: A screw press for extracting liquids from liquid-solid mixtures continuously and in a single operation. The press comprises a barrel divided into a feed section and a pin-barrel section. A rotatable screw is disposed in the barrel. Grooves are provided in the feed section to ensure a good feed input and hence an economical throughput, the pin-barrel section including radial pins extending into the barrel which, together with the rotation of the screw cause a high pressure to build up in the barrel thereby comminuting the mixture. The screw has helical flights formed thereon, the flights defining ridges, radial bores being formed in the ridges which communicate with an axial bore formed in the screw permitting the draining away the extracted liquid directly from the region in which it is extracted.

Halfway between the last turn of the helical vane (12) and disposed at 90.degree. to the shaft (TR'), there is a semicircular section (13) to break up the material before it enters the high pressure area where the action of the advancing screw ends. This area is equipped with openings, in greater density in the high pressure area (6) than in the next section (6'). The shaft (11) is hollow downstream from the helical vane and has openings (6") in the final section. A truncated cone collar (14) and a flap door (7) with adjustable height, facilitate compression inside the channel (4).
