  • Patent number: 11919269
Abstract: A screw feeder includes a pipe, feed screw, rotatory shaft, dewatering holes, anti-rotation bars extending inside the pipe and protruding towards the feed screw, an inlet to receive solid-liquid mixture, and an outlet to discharge partially dewatered solid. The pipe includes at least one pipe section having a first peripheral zone in a vertically lower area with dewatering holes but no anti-rotation bars and a second peripheral zone in a vertically upper area with anti-rotation bars. A pipe profile includes two differently shaped profiles, a first and second pipe profile are selected from a square-shaped, partly circular, and a partly elliptically-shaped profile. The first pipe profile is selected to enable outer edges of the feed screw to remove material overlying the dewatering holes, and the second pipe profile is selected to prohibit contact between the outer edges of the feed screw and the anti-rotation bars.

The screw press comprises an initial large-diameter screw section with a wide-pitch helix, communicating laterally with the bottom opening of the loading hopper (1) in order to remove the material from the hopper and feed it to a following small-diameter screw section with a small-pitch helix, surrounded by an internally scored stator body. This produces the feeding and compaction of the material which also occurs in conjunction with the action of a constriction which acts on the discharge mouth of this latter screw section. A press of this type has the two screw sections (3, 4) which are separated and arranged parallel to each other and one above or around each other, so as to form overall a press which no longer has as its length the sum of the lengths of the two screw sections.

The press comprises a barrel divided into a feed section and a pin-barrel section. A rotatable screw is disposed in the barrel. Grooves are provided in the feed section to ensure a good feed input and hence an economical throughput, the pin-barrel section including radial pins extending into the barrel which, together with the rotation of the screw cause a high pressure to build up in the barrel thereby comminuting the mixture. The worm has at least one flight, each of which flights is interrupted so as to enable the flight to pass the stationary pins in the pin-barrel region. The downstream ends or points of the worm flight portions formed by the interruptions are specially shaped in order to increase considerably the strength and service-life of the highly stressed points. This is achieved by reducing the size of the thrust flank, so that the flank subtends an angle of from 20.degree. to 50.degree. relative to the line perpendicular to the worm axis. Desirably, the thus-angled profiled tip region of the flight portions are interchangeable.

Abstract: The press installation includes a screw rotatably mounted in a cylinder. A very high pressure is produced to separate liquids from a mixture, with the separated liquid being drained off through bore holes in stationary pins at the location where it is released. In the discharge zone, the screw is devoid of threads whereby the annular cross sectional area between the screw core and the cylinder is increased. This extends the retention time and thus the amount of dehydration of the material as it passes through the discharge zone. Additionally provided in the discharge zone are annular offsets around the screw core in the vicinity of the pins, which prevent the penetration of solids into the drainage bore holes.
