Roll Crown Control Patents (Class 100/162B)
  • Patent number: 4282639
Abstract: A controlled deflection roll is disclosed comprising a stationary support and a rotatable hydraulically supported roll shell. There is also provided heating of the hydraulic liquid which is infed to the controlled deflection roll by a pump device. The pressure line of the pump device is connected by means of a heat exchanger with a return flow line. Connected after the heat exchanger is a cooling device having a temperature regulator. In the pressure line there is arranged following the heat exchanger a heating device. The return flow line is connected by means of an overflow valve with a container for hydraulic medium which is fed to a heating device for the controlled deflection roll.

  • Patent number: 4282638
Abstract: A heated controlled deflection roll equipped with spraying devices arranged in the intermediate space or compartment between the stationary roll support and the roll shell. The spraying devices have walls confronting the inner surface of the roll shell and at which walls there are formed openings which, during operation, form liquid jets. Oil which is infed to the spraying devices can be heated in a collecting container and/or in a tubular conduit. Temperature regulation of the roll shell can also be accomplished by a throughflow or quantitative regulation by means of valves. If there are present a number of temperature zones in the lengthwise direction of the roll shell then different spray devices can be operatively associated with partition walls, from which the liquid is infed to separate collecting containers. From these collecting containers the liquid is again infed, by means of separate pressure lines, to the individual spray devices.

  • Patent number: 4222324
Abstract: An apparatus for determining the pressure forces effective in a rolling mill having at least one controlled deflection roll and at least one counter roll, there being provided beams for simulating the stiffness or rigidity of the counter roll and the shell of the controlled deflection roll. These are further provided pressure elements which simulate the effect of the hydrostatic pressure or support elements of the controlled deflection roll, and measuring elements serve to measure the pressure between the beams. External pressure elements can serve to simulate the effect of external contact or pressure cylinders. With a rolling mill having a number of controlled deflection rolls and a number of solid counter rolls, the beams, the pressure elements and the measuring elements can be appropriately grouped or assembled together. The measuring elements deliver signals which can be employed for controlling or regulating a corresponding rolling mill which is simulated.

  • Patent number: 4218906
Abstract: For use in drawing, straightening or stretching a strip of metallic material such as bars, wire, and coils, an apparatus having a pair of elastic ring-equipped roll assemblies which provide a high tensioning force for the strip material held therebetween. As the tensioning force increases, the elastic ring in each of the roll assemblies tends to deform elastically along the circumferential direction of the area which contacts the material, thus increasing the contact area over which the applied force is evenly distributed. By this means the force per unit area can be reduced. The elastic ring is mounted on a control driving shaft by at least three axially rotatable rollers, two of which are arranged to bridge the area of the material contacted by the ring.

  • Patent number: 4200045
Abstract: A loading arrangement for obtaining an equally distributed pressure load in a cylinder stack included in a printing unit of an offset printing press, comprising a plurality of cylinders each having a cylindrical body portion and stub shafts at both ends, journalled in bearings. The arrangement includes axially short load rollers for producing a pressure load to the outermost cylinders of the stack. The rollers are located to act on portions between the bearings of the cylinders, and hence, the pressure load is transmitted directly to the body portions of the outermost cylinders. • Patent number: 4198905
Abstract: A calender for processing pulverulent and doughy materials, composed of hydrostatic controlled deflection rolls. Each of the controlled deflection rolls comprises a roll shell rotatable about a stationary support member and hydrostatic support elements which can be activated by a pressurized fluid medium. The hydrostatic support elements of the rolls which coact at a pressure gap or nip, with the same elevational arrangement of such rolls, receive pressurized medium at the same pressure. If the rolls are located at an elevational difference then there is provided a differential pressure regulator for taking into account the effect of the inherent weight of the roll shells. The width over which the rolls can be impinged with the pressurized fluid medium can be adjusted, and equally the temperature of the pressurized fluid medium. The calender can be equipped with four rolls arranged in a substantially Z-shaped configuration.

Abstract: Apparatus for fixing toner image on a toner image supporting member in electrophotographic copying machine is disclosed. The fixing apparatus includes three rotary rollers which are in contact with each other under the action of pressing means. One of the three rollers has a smaller diameter than the other two rollers.
