Abstract: A cleaning blade is a contacting device abutting a photoconductor which is a rotating body. The cleaning blade includes a contacting member that abuts the photoconductor, a supporting member that supports the contacting member, and a holding member that holds the supporting member. The supporting member supports the contacting member in a part protruding from the holding member. The holding member includes an upper surface on the side where the contacting member abuts the photoconductor and a lower surface on the opposite side of the upper surface. The holding member holds the supporting member with a supporting region away from the tip portion to the read end side. It is possible to reduce the fluctuation of the contact pressure abutting the rotating body.
Abstract: An arrangement in a curtain coater for starting and stopping coating of a web, having a reservoir and a connected surface extending over the web toward the curtain to collect the coating as the coater moves over the web to start coating the web. A cover plate that swing around a cross-direction shaft connected to the cover plate. In one embodiment the shaft also moves in the machine direction. The cover plate is used to protect an leading edge of the collecting surface from being covered with coating and pivots to be cleaned with fluid which may be supply from the shaft. The cover plate is arranged so the fluid drain off the cover plate onto the collecting surface or reservoir. When clean, the cover plate is repositioned to protect an leading edge of the collecting surface during the next start or stop operation of coating the web.

The coating element substantially maintains its orientation during the rotational movement of the support within a specified rotational range. The manifold assembly (220) flows the resin therethrough, and includes a channel (222). The impregnation zone (250) is in fluid communication with the manifold assembly (220), and is configured to impregnate the roving with the resin. The gate passage (270) is between the manifold assembly (220) and the impregnation zone (250), and flows the resin from the manifold assembly (220) such that the resin coats the roving. The gate passage (270) includes a projection (300). The projection (300) is configured to diffuse resin flowing through the gate passage (270).

Abstract: A compacting device is disclosed that is an at-home compactor for a variety of recyclable containers. The compacting device comprises a pair of opposing side units, wherein each of the opposing side units comprises a plurality of rollers secured together, creating a compacting zone. Typically, the plurality of rollers are secured together via a conveyor belt, and the surface of the conveyor belt would comprise a textured surface which creates friction to direct a recyclable container downward through the compacting zone. Furthermore, the compacting device comprises a storage unit for collecting the compacted recyclable containers, and a push component that assists with the downward movement of the recyclable containers through the compacting zone. The compacting device also comprises a selector component that funnels different types of recyclable containers into separate storage units, and a lid which acts to seal the contents of the compacting device and prevent leaks.
Abstract: A method for pressing together empty containers, especially drinks bottles or cans made of plastic, especially PET or tinplate, comprises a housing with a fill opening and an outlet, a cutting and pressing disposed in the housing, and a device for driving and controlling the cutting and pressing unit. The cutting and pressing unit contains at least two rollers whose axes of rotation are arranged at a distance from each other. Each roller has at least two sections. Adjacent sections along the same roller have different diameters. When the rollers are mounted, the sections having the larger diameter are offset relative to each other and the peripheral surfaces thereof partially overlap with each other, forming cutting disks whose peripheral surfaces have at least one groove.
Abstract: A device for cleaning a roll in a paper production plant has a doctor blade assigned to the surface of the roll. The doctor blade is mounted such that it can be pivoted with respect to the roll by two bearing journals that are aligned parallel to the axis of the roll. An actuating lever for pivoting the doctor blade is fixed to at least one of the two bearing journals. The bearing journal and the actuating lever are formed with mutually associated latching elements, by way of which the bearing journal and the actuating lever can be connected to each other in form-lock in different positions.
Abstract: Calender and process for operating calender depending upon a desired surface quality, in which calender includes a plurality of nips located between end nips formed by replaceable rolls and end rolls. Process includes selectively guiding a web though several nips of calender and at least one end nip of calender, and when the web is selectively guided through the at least one end nip, selectively replacing the replaceable roll with one of a hard and a soft roll to form the at least one end nip with a hard roll and a soft roll or with two soft rolls. The replaceable roll being connectable to a temperature control device operated with a tempering capacity that depends on the type of the replaced roll. Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for assisting in the release of a web from contact with the heated surface. The apparatus includes a material which is urged into contact with the heated surface upstream relative to the contact of the web to the heated surface. The material is devoid of metallic content and the arrangement is such that when the web contacts the heated surface downstream relative to the material, thermal energy is transferred from the surface to the web. The web is released from the heated surface subsequent to the transfer of the heat, such release being facilitated by the material being urged against the surface.
Abstract: An apparatus for processing a solid-liquid material comprises a housing formed with a series of interconnected chambers defined by chamber walls with at least two drums mounted in series within the chambers. Each chamber receives one of the at least two drums for rotatable movement therein. Each chamber and the associated drum are dimensioned to define a region therebetween to retain the solid-liquid material. The regions of adjacent chambers communicate with each other to define a continuous passage from drum to drum through the apparatus. An inlet in the housing admits the solid-liquid material to the passage, and an outlet permits extraction of a processed solid-liquid material from the passage. Each drum rotates in a direction opposite to the adjacent drum to advance the solid-liquid material through the passage from drum to adjacent drum in a sinuous path such that the curvature of the solid-liquid material changes when passing from drum to adjacent drum.

Abstract: A sugar cane milling system for two roll or three roll crushing mill modules in tandem in which one or more of these mill modules is provided in addition and adjacent to it with at least one toothed feeder roller and with a juice drainer in the form of a scraper-cum-short deflector for feeding a compact mat of prepared cane/bagasse directly to the nip of the crushing rolls of the modules. The prepared cane mat is fed approximately at the same speed as the surface speed of the crushing mill rolls without sharp changes in direction. Superficial juice is separated out as the cane mat is fed. A pressurized juice extracting conveyor is provided for removing the extra unabsorbed juice as well as squeezing out the absorbed juice out of cush-cush.

Abstract: The invention relates to a drum press comprising a device for clearing the inner surface of the drum or the outer surface of the roll. The drum is usable for instance for squeezing moist bark so as to make it suitable as a fuel. The drum press has a removing device placed at a distance from the drum or roll surface for removing material. The removing device is placed at a distance from the surface and on the surface there is provided a clearing device attached thereto. The present invention markedly reduces wear on the drum.
Abstract: A paperboard carton piercing-crushing and recycle system and apparatus which includes a safety operated door which controls motor operated carton piercing and crushing rolls in order to crush paperboard cartons for disposal. The safety operated door is provided with a magnetic switch which controls two different timed electrical circuits. One circuit controls an electronic safety latch mechanism which prevents the carton disposal door from opening during operation of motor driven carton crushing rolls and one timed circuit operates the motor during the time that the electronic safety latch mechanism prevents the door from operating. When the motor circuit stops, the timer to the electronic safety latch mechanism releases the safety latch so that the door can be opened. Thus, the system is safe and will not operate if the carton disposal door is open.

Abstract: A vacuum/blowing sheave on the end of the lower calender roll of a papermaking machine threads a tissue web tail from a Yankee dryer to a take-up reel through the calender. The sheave is positioned adjacent to the outlet of the threader tube from the Yankee dryer, where the vacuum portion of the sheave picks up the tail and transports it towards the take-up reel. Upon transiting the closed nip of the calender, the tail is blown by a short blowing section on the sheave into the tube threader which leads to the take-up reel.
Abstract: A blade mounting apparatus for a blade in a coater secures essentially the entire blade length. The coater provides a cross profile adjustment of a suspension flow. The blade mounting apparatus includes an adjustable thrust element engaging the blade along a line-shaped thrust contact area extending in a direction parallel to the longitudinal edge of the blade. The position of the contact area of the adjustable thrust element is variably adjustable, with local limitation, for providing cross profile adjustment.

Abstract: A method for cold rolling a strip is wherein brushing roll are provided to both the work rolls and the back up rolls of the temper mill, to remove particles from the surface of the rolls of the mill and suction ducts adjacent to the brushing rolls transport the foreign objects out of the mill system. The sucking speed at the duct is at least 5 m/sec., and preferably 8 m/sec. The length of the bristle is from 15 to 60 mm, the diameter thereof being from 0.15 mm to 1.0 mm, and the material thereof is selected from a group of nylon, propyrene, or a the mixture thereof. The density of the bristle with respect to the peripheral surface area of the brushing rolls for the work roll is from 55 to 85% by area. Abrasive grains with a grain size of #300 to #1200 are incorporated in the brush of said brushing roll which enhance the brushing ability.
Abstract: In a pull through doctor blade transfer system wherein a coiled blade is payed off one rotatable reel while simultaneously being taken up on another rotatable reel, with an intermediate portion of the blade between the reels being supported in a blade holder arranged to apply the blade to a moving surface to be doctored, each reel is driven by a hydraulic motor. In operation, hydraulic fluid discharged from the motor driving the take up reel is fed to the motor connected to the pay off reel. This fluid is pumped to a high pressure by blade induced rotation of the pay off motor, thus creating a braking torque.

Abstract: A method of and apparatus for adjusting the impact angle of a doctor blade are provided to at least partially offset negative effects of doctor blade wear. For example and not by way of limitation, in papermaking machines for making creped tissue paper, a negative effect of progressive doctor blade wear is progressive diminution of machine-direction tensile strength of the paper, all other operating factors being constant. That is, machine-direction tensile strength of the paper is inversely related to doctor blade wear which wear is, generally speaking, directly related to operating time. This progressive lessening of the paper's machine-direction tensile strength can be at least partially offset or compensated for by adjusting the impact angle of the doctor blade.
Abstract: Solid particles with entrained liquid are removed from a filtration tank and deposited on a chute inlet to a pair of rollers. One roller is pressed toward the opposite roller such that the solid particles pass through the nip of the rollers and the liquid is squeezed therefrom. The solid particles are scraped from the rollers on the outlet side of the deliquifier for collection. The liquid is collected on the inlet side of the rollers for reuse.
Abstract: A doctor blade assembly has a doctor blade supported in a blade holder. The blade has a projecting front edge adapted to be placed in contact with a moving surface to be doctored, and a rear edge adapted to be received in the blade holder. The blade is preloaded in a manner such that tensile stresses are induced in the front edge thereof. The level of such tensile stresses is below the yield strength of the blade material, yet high enough to prevent compressive stresses from developing at the blade front edge as a result of heat being generated by frictional contact between the blade and the moving surface being doctored.
Abstract: A juice extracting mill roll is provided with a plurality of juice channels connected with a plurality of juice inlet passages. The juice inlet passages have a longer dimension in an axial direction and a shorter dimension in a circumferential direction. Each juice inlet passage has a passage extension projecting into the juice channel to form a juice trap. Alternatively, a juice trap can be formed with each juice inlet passage intersecting the respective juice channel at a leading or lagging portion of the juice channel relative to the direction of rotation of the roll, and the opposite lagging or leading portion of the juice channel being shut off from the juice inlet passage.

A blade holder applies an intermediate portion of the blade to the doctored surface. The blade is movable longitudinally through the blade holder, and has continuing portions extending beyond the ends of the holder. At least one clamp acts on one of the continuing blade portions. The clamp is adjustable between a closed setting preventing relative movement between it and the blade, and the open setting permitting such relative movement. A drive reciprocates either the blade holder or the clamp in one direction when the clamp is closed and in the opposite direction when the clamp is opened, thereby causing the blade to move incrementally in one direction across the surface being doctored.

Means are provided for causing relative movement of the blades to reverse the disposition of the edges and cause the edge of the blade (9) to scrape that surface of the blade (8) which faces towards the roller. During such movement the blade (9) is moved so that its edge contacts the roller to keep a constant cleaning action. The edge of blade (8) scrapes the surface of blade (9) as the blades return to their original disposition.
Abstract: A couple of copy sheet stripping members are provided for scraping away a copy sheet adhered strictly to one of two rollers which are driven to fix images of an original document on the copy sheet in pressure engagement. At least one of the copy sheet stripping members is secured removably from the roller while the copy sheet is not transferred out of the rollers. The copy sheet stripping member becomes pressed against the roller in accordance with the transferring of the copy sheet which is detected by a sensing means. The copy sheet stripping member is free of residue attached on the roller because the period of time where the engagement between the roller and the copy sheet stripping member is kept is very short. The other copy sheet stripping member can be further disposed to assure both the scrape of the copy sheet and the removal of the residue on the roller, the copy sheet stripping member being continuously pressed against the roller.
Abstract: In a paper making machine, apparatus for cleaning a doctor blade which extends across a roll of the paper making machine in the cross-machine direction includes a frame mounted for oscillating movement over the length of the doctor blade, which frame is driven by drive apparatus preferably in the form of an air cylinder whose piston is coupled to the frame to oscillate the same and a blade cleaning brush carried by the frame in a manner such that the brush engages the doctor blade to clean the same as the frame is oscillated by the drive apparatus. The brush preferably comprises a rotatable, disc-shaped brush equipped with an air motor for rotating the same. The present invention provides the capability of cleaning the doctor blades of paper machines without necessitating interruption of the machine operation.

Abstract: A controlled-deflection roll having a stationary roll support or carrier and a tubular roll shell rotatable about the stationary roll support.
