  • Patent number: 8065859
Abstract: An agricultural bagger apparatus and method for compacting feed into a horizontally deployed bag including a moving hopper wall and mechanism for moving the wall at an input end of hopper. The wall moving mechanism and the moving wall of the hopper sweeps the feed adjacent to the sloping wall to prevent feed bridging. A safety enclosure isolates the wall moving mechanism from contaminants and prevents exposure to the wall moving mechanism. Some embodiments also compact feed in the upper portion of a tunnel, for example, by reciprocating a hinged piston above a primary compression mechanism. A tunnel-adjustment mechanism varies a cross-section area of the tunnel exit in order to control the amount of compaction on the feed as it leaves the tunnel and enters the bag. In some embodiments, dual counter-rotating toothed compression mechanism force feed between the rotors and into the tunnel at a rate and pressure greater than what is possible with only one multiple-toothed compressor rotor.

  • Patent number: 7350459
Abstract: An organic foliage compactor for compacting organic foliage into a bale is disclosed. The compactor includes a compactor frame and a compacting tube coupled to the compactor frame. The compacting tube includes a first end, a second end and a housing that defines an interior passage extending between the first end and the second end through which the organic foliage is urged to compact the organic foliage. A feed tube to which the organic foliage is to be introduced is in communication with the compacting tube. A driver provides an urging force to be imparted on organic foliage introduced to the feed tube, and a platen is operatively coupled to the driver for urging organic foliage introduced to the feed tube into the compacting tube where it is compacted as the organic foliage progresses through the interior passage defined by the housing between the first end and the second end of the compacting tube as a substantially steady-state process.

  • Patent number: 6324970
Abstract: A pressing device and a pressing method, wherein the method includes the steps of accommodating a stacked layer structure in a recess in a die body, and pressing the stacked layer structure in the recess of the die body between a bottom plate of the die body that forms a bottom wall of the recess and a top die, while laterally supporting sides or side walls of the die body that form side walls of the recess. The pressing device includes a die body which is small, light, and easy to handle, and also includes thrust mechanisms for laterally positioning the die body. The thrust mechanisms also laterally support the side walls of the die body when a stacked layer structure in the recess of the die body is pressed between the bottom plate of the die body and a top die. The pressing method makes it possible to press a ceramic stacked layer structure efficiently using the small and light die body.

  • Patent number: 5024151
Abstract: Disclosed is a refuse compactor particularly designed for aircrafts, which comprises a compaction chamber having a movable wall panel that extends parallel to one of the side wall of the compaction chamber, and can be moved away from this side wall through a very simple mechanism which is operated either directly by a hand-lever or indirectly through the service door of the compactor cabinet when this service door is closed for refuse compaction into a container. In both cases, the very purpose of this lateral motion of the movable wall panel relative to the adjacent side wall is to release the pressure of the refuse container inside the compaction chamber after completion of the compaction, and thus makes this container easily discardable into a storage chamber if any, or out of the compactor. The operation of the movable wall panel is exclusively mechanical and is therefore very simple and reliable.

  • Patent number: 4685391
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for crushing differently shaped and/or sized containers of waste material without disassembly of the device. A mold, having an inner cavity sized so as to accommodate a larger container, has a sleeve located therein which can be locked to the mold for simultaneous operation. The sleeve has an inner cavity of a shape and size so as to contain the smaller container and also to allow a ram to move through the sleeve cavity and compress the smaller container. The ram also has a structure for locking the sleeve to the ram so as to permit the sleeve ram combination to crush a larger container which has been located in the mold cavity. The locking and unlocking of the mold/sleeve or sleeve/ram as well as the mold movement and ram movement are all remotely controlled so as to permit crushing of various sized and shaped containers without disassembly of the press and the consequent exposure of workers to possible hazardous conditions.

  • Patent number: 4658719
Abstract: A waste baling machine having a baling or compression chamber of generally parallelopiped configuration is provided with a charging passage leading thereto with the head of a charging ram reciprocable in the passage and normally forming, in one position, a wall of the chamber. A discharge passage leads from the chamber at right angles to the charging passage and the head of a discharge ram, which when retracted forms a wall of the chamber, is advancable through the chamber and the discharge passage to eject waste material compressed in the chamber by the charging ram, i.e. a bale. If the bale is oversize and protrudes back into the charging passage, a portion of the wall of the discharge passage which forms a part of the charging passage is moved to enlarge the discharge passage sufficiently to permit ejection of the oversize bale.

  • Patent number: 4393759
Abstract: A cheese making apparatus comprises a rectangular vat, a pressing plate, a filtering sheet supported on the bottom wall of the vat for displacement in a longitudinal direction, and a transverse partition affixed to an end of the filter sheet adjacent a fixed end wall of the vat for simultaneous displacement with the filtering sheet in this direction. The partition defines with the side walls, the bottom wall and a mobile end wall opposite the fixed end wall an operating volume of the vat determining the amount of curds to be held in the vat for producing cheese from a pressed mass of the curds wherefrom the whey has been drained. Displacement of the partition changes the operating volume and the transverse partition is elastically compressible in a vertical direction whereby lowering of the pressing plate into the vat compresses the partition and permits the plate to apply pressure to the curds held in the vat.

  • Patent number: 4051644
Abstract: Mattress constructions and apparatus for producing the constructions wherein a resilient filler is located in a hopper and a flexible mattress cover is positioned for communication with the open end of the hopper. Means are provided for driving the filler into the cover, and the apparatus provides adhesive dispensers which apply adhesive to the filler surfaces so that this adhesive forms a bond between these surfaces and the associated cover. The apparatus employs engaging members for driving the filler out of the hopper, the engaging members automatically accommodate to differences in filler widths and thicknesses so that proper pushing engagement with the filler is reliably achieved. The resulting mattress is provided with a secure adhesive bond between the cover and filler, avoiding movement between the cover and filler during handling and use.
