The baler is transferrable between a first state for driving the hydraulic pump by external drive power provided by a corresponding work vehicle, and a second state for driving the hydraulic pump by the rotatable flywheel. The agricultural system further includes a control unit that is configured to: receive input-power-data indicative of a drive power available for driving the hydraulic pump in the first state of the baler; and determine a control-signal for transferring the baler into the second state, if the input-power-data indicates that the available drive power is insufficient for driving the hydraulic pump.

Pressured hydraulic fluid in the pressure cylinder flows through a passage (23) to the rod chamber to press down the push rod. The cross-sectional area of the pressure cylinder is many times greater than the cross-sectional area of the push rod shoulder so slight movement of the piezoactor is magnified many times by the hydraulic fluid to move the push rod with a long stroke.

In former arrangements the paddle was coupled to a crank plate moved by hydraulic rams which swung as they reciprocated. This led to uneven torque on the paddle and a tendency to stall midstroke, whereas the present drive provides even torque, throughout the oscillations.

    Abstract: The ram of a hot-stamping press is driven by means of a movable rack that can be allowed to change position with respect to the ram. The rack engages gears on the end of the ram opposite its head, but during the initial portion of its stroke an air cylinder interior to the ram prevents relative motion between the movable rack and the ram. As a consequence, the ram moves at the same velocity as that of the rack during the initial portion of the stroke. Stationary racks are also provided, and additional gears mechanically linked to the gears engaged by the movable rack begin to engage the stationary rack toward the end of the stroke. This requires relative motion of the movable rack relative to the ram despite the force applied by the air cylinder inside the ram, and the velocity of the ram is thereby reduced to a fraction of that of the rack. This results in force multiplication toward the end of the ram stroke.

A member capable of generating a mechanical force is mounted on the housing and is directly connected by a connecting member to the second of the movable jaws by a force transferring member and is indirectly connected by the same connecting member to the first jaw by a force modifying member. The force modifying member modifies the mechanical force so generated to achieve a mechanical advantage. When the member capable of generating the mechanical force is activated this force is first transferred to the first jaw, and because of the mechanical advantage achieved, the first jaw is able to initially overcome the structural resistance of the can and crimp it.
