  • Patent number: 8453564
Abstract: An apparatus that crushes beverage cans and similar containers to reduce waste volume in recycling bins comprises two (2) metal platens held when closed by a hinging mechanism that allows one (1) of the platens to be moved away from the other. The surfaces of the platens which face each other are provided with a textured or ribbed surface to prevent the object to be crushed from slipping out from between the closing platens. A first platen is mounted onto a pair of mounting brackets and a second platen is attached onto a pair of moving links. A pair of parallel operating arms is interconnected by a handle and operates the connected hinging mechanism. The hinging mechanism provides a toggle action which generates an adequate force between the platens to crush the containers. When the handle and the hinging mechanism are returned to the starting position, the opening between the platens allows the crushed object to fall out into the recycling bin.

Abstract: A driving device for a pressing machine, particularly effective on a turret punch press, whereby both high speed processing at times of low load and high load processing at low speeds can be carried out even with a low output motor. A driving device for a press machine that transmits the rotation of a motor 12 to a press system 11 via a rotation transmission system 29 having a speed reduction gear 30, wherein a speed change gear 31 intervenes on the rotation transmission system 29. The speed change gear 31 is arranged on the input side of the speed reduction gear 30. The press system 11 is a system for exchanging a rotation movement to a linear movement, reciprocally driving the punch tool 4 and comprises the toggle system 8 and the crank system 13 or the like. With regard to control, a method 36 for exchanging the rotation transmission ratio of the speed change system 31 corresponding to the type of process is arranged.

  • Patent number: 5947018
Abstract: A mechanical press has a ram carried by a frame and movable to advanced and retracted positions by a ball screw assembly driven by a reversible motor to actuate a cam and follower assembly connected to the ram by a linkage system. The linkage system has a pair of pivot links pivotally connected at one end to a fixed pivot shaft connected to the press frame and connected at their opposite end to a follower nut for movement thereby as the follower nut travels along the length of the driven screw. A pair of roller followers are also driven by the follower nut to move between first and second positions within cam tracks formed in a pair of first lever arms operably connected to the ram. In use, when the motor drives the screw in one direction the first lever arms are rotated in one direction to move the ram to its advanced position wherein the ram urges a die or tool into engagement with a workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5819644
Abstract: An automatic can smasher having a frame assembly with a pair of parallel channel members in a spaced relationship for receiving a can to be smashed. A motor is attached to the underside of the frame assembly. The motor drives a plunger arm assembly having a reciprocating plunger that compresses and smashes the can. A switch mounted on a switch mounting plate is operated when a can is placed within the frame assembly. The switch activates the motor and the reciprocating plunger. A hole through the frame assembly in front of the switch mounting plate allows the smashed can to fall through the frame assembly. A can receptacle can be placed over the frame assembly for placement of a plurality of cans and for feeding the cans one at a time into the frame assembly. When the plunger is retracted, one smashed can drops through the hole in the frame assembly, the switch is released and opened and the next can is allowed to fall into place for being smashed.
