Abstract: Precise motion of the ram of a fastener press is controlled by high torque and low torque motors for high speed/low force and high force pressing of the ram by the ram, respectively. The high torque motor means drive passes through a bidirectional overrunning clutch. The clutch is controlled by the relative motion of the two separate motor drive speeds of which are regulated by a controller. The clutching motion is therefore controlled only by the relative speed of its drive versus driven components. This provides an extremely smooth and responsive transition between high speed/low force and low speed/high force operation of the ram so that the pressing cycle can be as fast and efficient as possible.

Abstract: A reciprocating drive mechanism for converting motor rotation into linear motions to produce a reciprocating drive force, and a press machine using the mechanism. The rotation of a first motor (20A) out of two motors (20A) and (20B) is converted into a high-speed low-torque rotational output and transmitted to a ball screw mechanism (50) by a first power transmission mechanism (30). The rotation of the second motor (20B) is converted into a low-speed high-torque rotational output and transmitted to the ball screw mechanism (50) by a second power transmission mechanism (40). The ball screw mechanism (50) is made of a feed screw (52) supported in a screw hole of a nut member (51) so as to be capable of screw-fed rotation. The feed screw (52) and the nut member (51) are coupled with the first power transmission mechanism (30) and the second power transmission mechanism (40), respectively.

Abstract: The invention concerns a device comprising a screw (10) with pitch (P1) driven by a motor (M), a nut (12) co-operating with the screw (10) and designed to be driven in translation in the direction of the screw axis, said nut being integral in translation with a member (14), guide means (22L, 24L) defining a linear guiding to lock the rotation of the nut in a first phase of displacement, second guide means (22H, 24H) defining a helical guiding having a reverse pitch (P2) relative to the pitch of the screw to enable the transverse pitch and hence the translational speed of the nut to be decreased in said second phase of displacement. The inventive device can be used to produce a relative displacement between the members (16 and 28) of a clamping tool.
