Heat from the heating element can be brought directly to the area in which the coffee is brewed to help maintain a more consistent, tighter tolerance temperature and faster recovery between brew cycles.

    Abstract: Waste objects, for example used oil barrels, are crushed using a device having a frame which supports first and second press plates so as to be movable towards one another in a crushing direction. A plurality of ball screw assemblies which are connected between the press plates each include a lead screw and a follower nut with roller elements in rolling engagement with the threads of the lead screw such that there is little or no static friction which must be overcome in order to release the press plate from the crushed object once the crushing operation is complete. A motor coupled to the ball screw assemblies applies a continuous torque throughout a full range of crushing movement of the second press plate relative to the first press plate to overcome the back pressure from the object being crushed.

The pan fits the chamber with its walls spaced from the walls of the housing and receives a trash bag within it. The container is open at the top and bottom with its walls upwardly and inwardly tapering with its lower end fitting within the bag and holding it bottomed against the pan. Both the pan and the container are of a plastic having a good memory and they are detachably interconnected. A carrying strap enables the unit or the pan with the bag therein and with the container removed, to be carried to a pick-up or disposal site.

    Abstract: Apparatus for compacting discarded wastepaper, cardboard boxes and the like into bale form comprising a container having a floor, a platen movable downwardly toward the floor for compacting the material, and a drive means for pulling the platen downwardly. The drive means includes a pair of upright screws drivingly connected to opposite ends of the platen, a pair of pulleys engaged with the lower ends of the screws, and a pair of drive belts which connect the pulleys to a motor, which is positioned on the back wall of the container at substantially equal distances from each screw. Turning of the pulleys by the motor additionally rotates the screws thereby driving the platen up or down. A pair of circuit interrupting switches are electrically associated with the motor and engage the drive belts. The switches are operable to shut off the motor in response to belt breakage.
