Abstract: This pneumatic operated and controlled machine secures a line about nursery stock placed upon a table top to form a bundle. The line is fed from a source through an upper mechanism comprising a tensioner arranged to hold the line with a predetermined force, through a dancer arm arranged to tighten the line, and through a needle into a slot in the table top where the line end is gripped by a lower mechanism. The dancer arm pulls against the tensioner to draw the stock into a compact bundle. In a second embodiment a powered drum provides additional line tension for the upper mechanism. In this manner, the strap portion being gripped is gripped in an undulated or corrugated manner so as to insure secure gripping thereof even under high-tension, high-torque conditions, such as, for example, as the binding strap is being tightened and tensioned in preparation for the bonding operation of the overlapped leading and trailing end portions of the binding strap encircling the article being bound.

  • Patent number: 4823686
Abstract: A device for wrapping a bale or the like with a wire or band held together by a tubular seal comprises an arrangement of units wherein wire is pushed through a metal tube held in readiness, then looped around the bale, and the free end of the wire is again moved through the metal tube. After the wire has been passed twice through feeding of the metal tube held in readiness; the wire is arrested by a limit switch; the portion of the wire end projecting out of the crimping jaws is bent around the metal tube; and tightening around the band is completed. Then the seal is produced by moving the crimping jaws toward each other and simultaneously severing the band from a supply coil. The wrapping operation takes place automatically by a holding device which holds the respectively next needed metal tube into the path of movement of the wire to be extended around the bale.

  • Patent number: 4709627
Abstract: There is described a tube magazine on a device for sealing steel wrapping bands around filled packages in which to seal the steel wrapping bands the steel band is initially conveyed twice through a first smooth oval sheet metal tube contained in the tube magazine wih corresponding steel band lead-in openings provided in the tube magazine. To improve its functioning, the tube magazine is carried on a stationary axle that is parallel to the direction of conveyance of the steel band, which housing can swivel in limited manner such that in the first end position the first tube stored in the tube magazine is disposed coaxially opposite and in correct position to the steel band to be conveyed, while in the other end position the tube magazine is outside the steel band which is guided sideways, and in the outside of the tube magzine, which is turned toward the second magzine end position and runs parallel to the direction of conveyance of the steel band, there is a recess that is at least the size of a tube.

For this purpose, an apparatus is provided which holds the respectively next needed metal tube exactly into the path of movement of the wire to be extended around the bale.

  • Patent number: 4566378
Abstract: A fiber bale press is equipped with a hooping mechanism for applying wire-hoops to a fiber bale produced by the press. The press has at least one pressing plate and a counter pressure plate as well as a hoop material supply device. The hoop material is steel wire cut to suitable lengths for forming hoops. The steel wire ends are secured to each other by a sealing member, such as a tubular metal sleeve, which receives one steel wire end in each of its ends. The tubular metal sleeve is rigidly secured to the ends of the hoop forming wire by a crimping mechanism. Preferably the steel wires are hooped around a bale in a cross-over relationship so that at least the wire-hoops close to and in parallel to a bale edge are held in place by wire-hoops running perpendicularly to the bale edge. This mechanism avoids loops at the ends of the baling wire.

Abstract: In a package strapping tool of the pusher bar type a strap foot restrainer 59 pivoted at 49 to a frame 25 carrying a strap foot 47 is swung clockwise by double-acting auxiliary piston and cylinder assembly 63 from an open position, allowing strapping to be inserted laterally between a rotary dog 50 and strap foot 47, to a closed position (FIG. 4) in which a part 60 of the restrainer 59 engages the underside 61 of the strap foot 47 to support the strap foot 47 against the pressure of the rotary dog 50. In the closed position the restrainer 59 bears against a peg 68 on a carrier, also pivoted at 49 the frame 25, for the rotary dog 50 driven by an air motor 51 and urges the dog 50 against strapping overlying the strap foot 50.

  • Patent number: 4243077
Abstract: A package strapping tool of the fluid pressure operating type embodying tensioning means for tightening a loop of strapping around a package and joining means for securing together overlapped portions of the loop. The tensioning means and the joining means are operated by hydraulic or pneumatic means wherein the initiation of the joining operation is controlled through a time delay device the timing cycle of which is started by the application of fluid pressure to the tensioning means. The time delay device is preferably of a pneumatic or hydraulic type which uses for its own operation the fluid which is suppled under pressure to operate the tool. The time delay device is preferably adjustable whereby the cycle of the tool may be varied dependent upon circumstances and the timing cycle may be started by the supply of fluid pressure to the tensioning means.

  • Patent number: 4160510
Abstract: A CRT (cathode-ray tube) in combination with a notch-sealed band tensioned around the tube characterized in that the inner overlapping end portion of the band is folded at least twice upon itself and is positioned between the tube and the band. In the method, one end of the band is folded at least twice upon itself. The band is positioned around the tube with the end portions overlapping, the folded portion toward the tube and a sheathlike metal clip around the overlapping end portions of the band and against the inside of the end fold of the folded end of the band. Then, the clip is pushed against the end fold, and the outer end portion of the band is pulled until the desired maximum tensile force is applied, at which point the clip and overlapping end portions of the band are notched together.
