  • Patent number: 10052824
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for three-dimensional printing are provided. The systems, devices, and methods provide for high throughput printing by allowing for parallel extrusion within a single vertical layer of the printed object, i.e., parallel extrusion within an x-y coordinate plane. Any advancement of an extruder can be limited to movement along a single axis, or even no axis at all, so that printing occurs more quickly. In some embodiments, the extruder can include a printing plate that includes a plurality of apertures defined by conductive elements extending in a grid-like manner. The printer can be designed such that material is disposed to a build platform through the apertures only when the aperture is heated on all four sides, for instance by running current through the conductive elements that define the aperture. Other systems, devices, and methods for three-dimensional printing are also provided.

  • Patent number: 7448318
Abstract: A machining waste metal recycling machine has an in-feed hopper. The hopper uses paired augers to move the waste metal through the hopper to a cutting and transporting auger. The hopper augers are powered independently from each other, and may be individually reversed or reversed as a group to clear jams. In the event a jam is not cleared through one or more reversal cycles, the remaining augers may be operated to clear the hopper, thereby avoiding the need for manual unloading. Within the hopper are one or more shear bars that are provided to sever bunches or bundles of machining waste and thereby clear tangles which might otherwise jam the augers. The cutting and transporting augers ultimately feed a reciprocating compactor having a movable gate with one or more grooves for controlled drainage of machining oil and other liquid, as the machining waste metal is compressed into pellets.

  • Patent number: 7377214
Abstract: The bulk volume of large numbers of loose, separated, multiply bent, irregularly shaped scrap sheet metal is temporarily reduced, for transportation and storage of the metal for recycling purposes, by compressing the metal into temporary, compacted wafers formed of successively compacted layers. The apparatus includes a load chamber which is axially aligned with a compression chamber and a reciprocating ram which passes through the chambers towards an anvil plate which closes the discharge end of the compression chamber. A pre-determined quantity of loose pieces is placed within the load chamber. The reciprocating ram compresses the pieces of that batch into a thin layer. Successive batches are compressed into overlapping layers which are temporarily bound together, face-to-face, to form a unitary wafer, by temporarily bending and intertwining the peripheral edges of the layers. The layers are subsequently separated for recycling by depositing into a melt furnace.

  • Patent number: 7011018
Abstract: The material compactor generally includes a feed apparatus and a final compaction apparatus. The final compaction apparatus generally includes a compaction chamber having confronting compression plates and an adjustably taperable portion. The area of the inner cavity of the final compaction chamber can be adjusted to become measurably smaller (tapered) or larger at the opened discharge or expelling end. Consequently, compacting movement of the material within the compaction chamber and through the chamber significantly subjects the material to restrictive compacting pressure which in turn compacts the material and performs liquid separation with each operationally continuous movement through the final compaction apparatus and out an open discharge port.

  • Patent number: 6874411
Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for compressing the grinding sludge, which is effective to compress the grinding sludge to provide an intended rigid briquette even though the grinding sludge contains ground chips of hardened iron and/or steel materials and an oil-based coolant and also to facilitate reuse of the briquette (B1) as material for production of steel. The grinding sludge containing the oil-based coolant and hardened component parts such as steel component parts that are used in bearings is compressed. To this end, the grinding sludge produced from a grinding line (1) is filtered by a filtering unit (4) to provide a concentrated sludge which is subsequently compressed by squeezing by a briquetting machine (5) to provide the briquette (B1). The briquette B1 so obtained can be reused as steel material. The coolant separated from the grinding sludge during filtering and squeezing is returned to the grinding line (1) through recovery passages (7, 8).

  • Patent number: 6349638
Abstract: A briquetting machine for compacting metal chips into briquettes with a movable die that provides plural die cavities. After metal chips are loaded into a loading chamber from a hopper, a chip compacting ram pushes the chips at a high speed and low pressure into one of several bores, disposed within a sliding die gate, and against an endplate. The bore and endplate together constitute a die and define at least two die cavities. After the ram reaches a predetermined low pressure, the ram then proceeds at a relatively low speed and relatively high pressure to compress the chips within the die into a briquette. Upon reaching a predetermined compaction pressure, the ram retracts from the bore. After such time, the die gate is moved to a location where one bore lies before an ejector cylinder. The ejector cylinder then extends into the bore, expelling the briquette from the bore.

  • Patent number: 5664492
Abstract: A metal shavings and chips compactor for extruding oil from metal chips and shavings and compacting the metal into easily transportable pellets. A compactor cylinder contains a piston and has an opening through which an auger feeds metal chips and shavings. A gate doses an end of the cylinder. A first hydraulic drive drives the piston under low pressure to close the opening and apply a first compacting pressure on the metal to form a loosely compacted pellet in the cylinder. High pressure then operates the piston to form a compact metal pellet substantially void of interstices. A second hydraulic drive opens the gate; the piston is operated at low pressure to discharge the compact metal pellet from the chamber and oil is collected below the cylinder. The compacting pressures are achieved through mechanical advantages provided by the size of the piston to that of the first hydraulic drive.

  • Patent number: 4947743
Abstract: Apparatus for compacting and advancing a mass of particulate or fibrous material to a discharge end of a conduit combines an auger with a reciprocating annular piston. The improvement of the invention is in driving the piston by way of a flywheel equipped crankshaft which also drives a dynamically counter balancing member to reduce vibrations transmitted to the frame of the apparatus. Special hydrostatic guide sleeves are used to guide the reciprocating piston at a high speed. Further improvements include gas and liquid vents and a cooling jacket, both associated with the conduit to increase efficiency of the compacting. A density sensor controlled conical choke member at the discharge end assists in maintaining uniform density of the highly compacted plug of the material. Also, it breaks up the exiting plug to improve subsequent processing of the material.
